Congratulations Fast Eddie! You know, the common working man is typically the first person to step up to the plate and sacrafice when times get tough. That's why they are called the working man. But this entire impasse situation is completely discouraging and disgusting. And allow me to take a moment to tell you why.
As I stand in Sheetz, the non working Access card holder in front of me who purchases, or should I say is GIVEN, 4 two liters of Mountain Dew and 2 large bags of Doritos, requests cash back at the conclusion of their Access purchase. Once cash back is given, a second purchase is made with that cash to purchase three packs of cigarettes. Then to top it off, the pennies given that were part of their change were put into the give a penny/take a penny cup. Do they really have pennies to give? Abusing the system? Maybe! Per-diem checks are still being issued to state legislators in order to get to Harrisburg when we can't even vote on a budget allegedly until the 17th! Prisoners are still getting paid so that they can buy their extras when they eat for free, have cable, and have a roof over their heads at no cost to them! I may sound like a disgruntled state worker and thats because I am. I've worked extremely hard to get to where I am. Some of the men and women I work with are the sole income for their families. Yet we go to work everyday, put our lives on the line, and come home to absolutely no paycheck. People who just lay around their free housing, eating their free food because they have no ambition to work, don't miss a beat in their lives. The ACLU will tell you that it would be inhumane to take away their access cards. But no one speaks up when the working man won't be able to pay two car payments, a mortgage, and put food on the table. Who is our spokesperson? Who will stand up and say that this entire situation is complete BS. What government official will make the proposal and take the side of the working man? It's a complete shame that this is even a discussion. And everyone who voted for this poor excuse for a governor should be proud of themselves. A 16% take increase would be the exact opposite of what people in this state need. The foreclosure rate as it stands is outrageous and a property tax increase would just add to the situation. |
