This November vote NO for the continuation of SPLOST. I can agree that a sales tax, is one of, if not the most fair tax available because all consumers participate in the program. If I felt like the local governing authorities would apply this income source to lowering property taxes--I would fully support this cause. Based on Ware Counties history spending habits this will be more pork barrel spending rather than wiser use of our already collected property tax dollars. VOTE NO!

What in particular have they spent splost on that you disagree with?

Badger, Josephine Park Rd for starters was a splost project.....pavement and culverts. Now the county is demanding others to pay for their culverts, permits and inspections. Why can't the culverts the county is demanding everybody else to pay for be covered under a splost project like JP Rd? Or Why not put the splost money in the general fund and lower property taxes.
I just feel like this is another hidden tax with little accountability and some of these funds are used for special interest groups. What are your thoughts?

I have to disagree with you, "Hammermill", bout sales taxes being "most fair".
You need to remember that the way they're implemented in GA, the poor have to pay a disproportionate share of their income as taxes.
Once a person's income gets up to certain level, the percentage of taxes collected as sales tax goes down.
It boils down to a person [or family] who is in the "working poor" class has to spend a minimum of their entire income on sales tax, while those in higher income brackets with so-called "discretionary" income can choose not to spend, or to spend in a different way, or area, so that overall, their actual expenditures as sales tax is a lower percentage of their total income.
It not always constant, because the consumer can control it to some degree, depending on limiting factors like income.
At one time, the legislature contemplated allowing the lowest income earners to claim an exemption that would let them recoup some or all of their sales tax burden, because of the disparity.
Aside from that, tho, you are so right about the county's spending habits.
They are like drunken sailors on their 1st nite on the town in 6 months.
You'd think that supposedly adult people would be responsible when it comes to handling other people's money.
You be wrong, at least in Ware Co.
Have a GREAT day, neighbor!
