Burns faces another charge

Daniel E. Burns - the former Brownsboro ISD band director facing sentencing next week for tampering with a government witness - may not be done standing in front a jury of his peers.

Where were the school board and principal for the Brownsboro ISD when all these incidents were happening? Not one but THREE teachers from the Brownsboro High School have been indicted by the Grand Jury in the past few months for some form of sexual misconduct with underage students. Per testimony noted in the Athens review, from the accused during the trial, even though they received a letter in the Burns case telling them inappropriate behavior was occurring, they weren't inclined to investigate further. Who is protecting the students from these sexual predators? A 40 year old man excusing his actions in sending sexually explicit text messages to young girls as 'trying to be one of the students' is totally unacceptable. Would you accept this behavior from a trusted friend with your daughter?

There is no one to blame other than the teachers who made very stupid decisions and, in turn, have most likely ruined their lives. I feel sorry for the kids and their families.

well that's what she wanted. she was upset when people found out because to her it was starting to be love. and that's gross don't get me wrong...
but... IT HAPPENED.
Mr. Burns was an amazing band director and we miss him greatly.
don't get me wrong we love the one we have now...
but Burns was something special.
and if he was thinking of the band when he was doing his thing... we'll always love him.
it was hard for us to move on and think you know our drum major did this... lesely smith did this.
why do they even bother coming back? no one likes them... they got our band director fired
but you can't blame anyone for the actions accept for the people that made them.
so you need to STFU.

i do think he was guilty.

but like i said before.
what man that isn't christian and isn't gettin any from his own wife would turn down a teenage girl.

He is on jail and will be there for one more year. and as far as the girls go they are doing good. They would be better off though if yall would stop blaming them and start blaming the one responsible. not lesely s. and not amy m. danny burns

I don't think anyone here was blaming the girls. Burns was stupid for trying to "be like one of the kids". Why would a grown man send high school girls text messages and let them come to his apartment? He was asking for trouble. Whether he did the deed or not, he did enough stupid things (like have affairs with co-workers and other former students)to make the jury believe he probably did this one too.

I remember back in middle school how he was always NAGGING people to be Christian and hassling them non-stop, saying "You know, you ought to...GO TO CHURCH!". What a tool...I never really liked him nor did I pretend to. I don't blame him so much for having an affair with a teen-aged girl as I'm sure she was probably already sexually active, I do, however, blame him for cheating on his wife AND being a Bible-thumping hypocrite.

This story sounds like what happened in Henderson a few years ago. And the band director just got fired and nothing else was said. Swept under the rug.

I hope he got what he deserved in prison. I hear inmates don't take kindly to those that take advantage of childern. A bald, fat, a-hole band geek in prison? Yeah...he's someone's bitch.

talk about mr. burns when u didn't even kno him.
he was my band director.
he was actually quite intelligent.
what he did was wrong, yes. i agree.
but u have to understand too
that the girl that was involved.
surely had great part in it.
i saw the pictures she took for him.
that was her doing.
and he was just being a man.
he was greatly missed.
and admired by many band directors across the state.
what he did he has to live with and know he will never be able to do what he loves again.

this is so typical; fake Christian teacher using his authority to get into some kids' pants.
Rusk Texas school teachers busted for child porn, improper relationships with students, cops date raping students, etc. etc.
Of course, Mr. Burns has sat on the Henderson County juries, passing judgments/judgement against people...
That's the dirty secret, just like in Cherokee County- the school teachers are related to the district attorney and district clerks.
Therefore they get to have their charges whitewashed. I bet the local school board and city council is working on a fake ordinance right now to keep registered sex offenders away from the Brownsboro School campuses. Even though the State law is crystal clear on it.
This area is ripe with fake Christians who are so ingrained and politically connected, they do whatever they want.

Burns wasn't a fake Christian. He understood he was wrong. Shortly before he went to prison he told all of us who were close to him that he hoped we could see past the things he had done and forgive him. He understood that most people would turn their backs on them and that he would understand why. I know the man had a good heart. I know that he did things for people out of kindness that he did not make public. I was there when he offered to help a student who was being abused at home. That kid is definitely better off now because of him.
