Immigration bill's big issue is how businesses can check worker status
“No one is out there encouraging people to not comply.”
Dozens rally for tougher law
Holding a sign that read 'E-verify Everyone Now,' Susan Sejda of Myrtle Beach stood Monday among 100 other people at the State House, calling for a tough state immigration law.
'We just want our elected officials to do their jobs,' Sejda said. 'If they can't, get out and let someone else do it.'
Sejda's sign referred to a now-dead proposal that would have required all businesses in South Carolina to use a federal database to check their employees' legal status. The proposal was shot down earlier this year by the Senate. The current bill requires only government contractors to use it. Read more
