Hey...=) At the end of next month, I will be going to Myrtle Beach with some friends.. It's going to be my 2nd time ever to even see the ocean, believe it or not. lol My first time was a few years ago with some family from out of town.. It was unplanned, a short trip and I hadn't seen them in so many years, I was more into spending time w/them than actually exploring and experiencing the ocean and city. lol So, this will be different!

Does anyone know anything about a resort called "Myrtle Beach Resort"? Is it nice? What is it near?

What is the best beach area in Myrtle?
Best club/place for nightlife?
Best place to take a toddler (one of my friends will have her little girl with her)?
Best places for shopping?
Best places for dining (seafood buffet! lol)- somewhat economical?

All tips are welcome. Really looking forward to it!=)

Look them up yourself. Don't be afraid of the truth or be blind to your surroundings. Google "BEST AND WORST CRIME MYRTLE BEACH", read it for yourself. Google "DIRTY DOZEN BEACHES" do some more reading. Go to the South Carolina Criminal Defense Blog.. " November 2008" http://www.so uthcarolinacriminaldefenseblog

article states... The Myrtle Beach metro area's violent crime rate also is higher than tourism meccas Las Vegas and Orlando, Fla., both of which attract about three times as many annual visitors as Horry County.
Myrtle Beach's crime rate, according to the FBI, is 948.1 incidents per 100,000 residents. Of course local business leaders and law enforcement want to make it look better than it is - local business leaders are afraid that tourists will stay away if they hear about the stats and fear that they might get robbed or killed while here on vacation, and law enforcement is afraid that we will think they aren't doing a good enough job. This is from the local source. Try spotcrime on the SCNow web page and take a look at the latest crime in Myrtle Beach. Nana you might want to let your children know where your taking the grandkids

You will have trouble getting responses from locals. We are weary of arguing with the New Yorker, NcJail, about Myrtle Beach. He has his Agenda. Anyway, you will be very pleased with Myrtle Beach Resort. If it is the one that I know about. It is Ocean Front, has a "Lazy River" to relax in after a long day. Shopping, there is Market Common, Broadway at the Beach, Barefoot Landing, etc. There is so much to do here for Adults and children that it is almost bizarre, and our leaders always have the place on the move, increasing the attraction. That is what Makes the Grand Strand one of the most popular Vacation Destinations in the country.

A "What's at the Pavilion?" How's the unopened theme park? Isn't Market Commons in receivership?.. Be real for once. While your there check out the many pages of escort services in the yellow pages. Oh I'm sorry they're only for entertainment purposes only.. Thanks Turk.. you enlightened me.. I've been there and have lived it and, so now I'm letting people know about it.. To bad.. I LOVE NEW YORK, YANKEES, METS, RANGERS, ISLANDERS, JETS, GIANTS (even though there in NJ)
The Beaches, lakes, mountains, waterfalls, restaurants, concert halls, quality plays.. You can have your eat while smelling horses butt shows, cheap impersonator shows, high school plays.. enjoy it. I guess we have a different level/standard of living. Oh and one other thing employment with real salaries.. Horry County was listed as the lost weekly salary area in the nation. But I don't know anything... LOL!!

I didn't say you didn't know anything, I was just letting the lady know why she was getting negative responses to her inquiries from someone that lives in NY. The truth is, people love coming to the Grand Strand, they have great vacations and create lifelong memories. I have found great experiences all over the United States. No need to be snide. I have found that to be prevalent in most people that are not southerners though, so you are typical, not odd.

any one ever find out what ever happened to that missing Brittney Drexel girl?
Did the town ever get enough money to hire any new police officers, last I heard they had a new boring walk but no police officers to put on it.

Now if you want a real boardwalk and some real clubs then look no further than ocean city M.D. A nice clean, safe family beach and young people as well.

PARADISE??? You have dumbass lifegaurds running over sunbathers, people being busted for prostitution, and attempted kidnapping of a child yet you say it is paradise! REALLY??? You people need to clean up the trash in your town and the bikers are not it. If there would have been bikers around when that SOB was trying to kidnap a child the lil brother would not have put hisself in danger because a biker is not afraid to get involved unlike losers like you who stand by and watch it happen. The bikers are not the trash, it your locals that are!

Quotes from people and politicians in Myrtle Beach.. Seems to me it's a bunch of "WHAT IF? ", COULD BE'S?", "MIGHT BE'S" "HOPES, DREAMS AND PRAYERS".. it's no way to run a city..
"I've never felt unsafe down there," said Walker, who has owned businesses such as Mad Myrtle's Ice Cream and the Nightmare Haunted House for 20 years. "People tend to exaggerate safety concerns down there. I don't think our area is any more unsafe than the parking lot at the mall."

But council members said it's important that the boardwalk succeed.

"We cannot blow it the first year," Mayor John Rhodes said.

"The last thing we need is to open the boardwalk and have people be afraid to go down there, or have them regret going there because it's nasty," Councilwoman Susan Grissom Means said.

But he also said that it can be done, and even without extra workers this year, he doesn't think the boardwalk will become ratty or a draw for crime

Plyler agrees.

"There's probably more lighting along the boardwalk than you would expect, since so many cities are cutting back on their utilities to save money," he said. "And so far, I see a mix of people on the boardwalk. We'll all be keeping an eye out to see if it becomes a magnet for undesirable people. Whenever you have a lot of people, you're going to have some crime. But there are other areas of town where there's more crime than down here."

Leath said an MID is still an option, as is the possibility of raising taxes. But council members have already said they have no intention of raising taxes.
