Elco Athletic Director Doug Bohannon is in limbo. Bohannon submitted his resignation as athletic director earlier this month, but the school board, by a vote of 5-3, rejected it Monday night. Read more

The SD fell for it

OK, they're falling for Bohannon's bluff. He's like a child and will no doubt get his way. If he can't have all of it (his way/status quo) he wants none of it. Let him go back to teaching special education full time (where the SD needs him) and find someone else for the AD position and get that nice $10K bonus for their effort. He even said himself that he wants to leave to concentrate on his family.

The problem here is if he accepts the offer of part time with AD, he looks bad. If he leaves altogether and someone else picks it up, he looks bad. Someone can do the AD job - it cannot be a full/overtime position. The SD should just do a manpower survey and find out exactly what it is that he does on a daily basis. Right now the time reported that he spends at the job is pure conjecture and it's only coming from him that it has to be a full-time position.

So all of a sudden at the end of next year ELCO will have $1m fund balance. But the board cuts the asst. supt., full time AD, television and the teachers take a pay freeze. All the while stating there is no money and where can they find it. But they are going to raise the taxes 3 MORE mills just to have rainy day fund of 1 MILLION $'s! Taxpayers don't have the luxury of a rainy day fund! When are they going to get it... taxpayers are REALLY hurting!!

So the board rejected Bohannon's resignation as Athletic Director. Athletic Director was his sole position at ELCO. What happens if they decide to accept his resignation and the special education teaching position suddenly disappears? Then what is he going to do? Be unemployed? What will the board do with the special education position? Fill the teaching position with someone right out of college at a fraction of the cost? If none of the volunteers are going to come back either, then maybe the solution is to just get rid of the athletic department altogether? Maybe we ought to build another building? Surely that would solve all of the problems.

anyone's working on curriculum-the real reason the kids are at school. I certainly hope the fact that everyone is paying attention to this distraction means they have the problems at the Intermediate School worked out. And the busing....

I think we need a new AD (Administration Dept).

These new board members came on as part of the S.O.S. push...and now that they couldn't do that, they have NO CLUE how to go about the "normal" school business.

Bohannon is smoke and mirrors. He puts himself on every committee to make himself seem important. This job is a total ego trip for him and now the board is only feeding that ego. This board just needs to get some "brass" and move on. Everyone is replacable, yes even "Bo"!

Sounds like some envious people posting on here. Do you really think anyone will take you seriously if you don't post your name? It's real easy to sit at your computer and bash someone without letting people know your identity. How about being a man and when you decide to criticize, post your name.

Can someone explain to me how they go from a $900,000 deficit to $1 million surplus? I know the teachers "had" to give up their raise but where does the almost $2 million swing come about. I understand there was NO discussion during the public meeting concerning this issue and yet they are going to raise the taxes 3 mills! I guess the public doesn't desrve an explanation.(I don't want to hear it was discussed in committee ... maybe some people have to work @ 5:00) This board is just the same as the last if not WORSE!
All the executive session before and after their meetings they sure must have a lot of problems.

The board's rejection is genius. Bo either does what he is asked to do, or he doesn't do what they request and he is terminated for insubordination...which brings me back to my original thoughts that he should've just shut up and did what he was told instead of over reacting and talking with the LDN.

Eric boy, you are so wrooooooong. The board will now be steppin' and fetchin' to Doug's demands. They blinked. Good for Doug!

This is not a serious form to voice opinions. It is for gripes and complaints period. Anyone who gets on here and gets all high and mighty in defense of DB must have an agenda for some reason or another. Freedom of speech is awesome. God bless America.

Where do you see a 1 million dollar surplus by the end of next year?

maybe if Bohannon didn't sit on every committee in the LL he would have time to teach and be the AD. Last time I checked most AD's have other duties such as asst. principal, part-time teacher etc. The problem here is that he thinks he is to good to do that. Elco isn't even a large district.

... The board hopes that the 2011-12 budget will allow for a fund balance of about $1 million by the end of the fiscal year that could be used as a rainy day fund....

Oh, "hopes" I thought there were some real numbers available. Well, I hope I'm going to hit the lottery but I don't plan a budget based on what I hope I might win.
As of today, the proposed final budget on the school district website has not been updated since May. It would be nice if the revised final budget would be available before they vote on it Monday. If people have questions or need clarification it would be in the best interest of the school board to
make it available before Monday evening or am I asking for too much.
