Bank scam targets Muskegon area

A bank scam has Muskegon police warning residents to be wary of phone calls from people claiming to be ban representatives and asking for bank or credit card numbers.

I got one of those calls this morning. I knew it wasn't right, since I don't deal with the bank mentioned.

I just recieved a call from the automated number and called it back to find it was a mortgage company in chicago for more info call me or email me [e-mail]

Both of my daughters received one of these calls earlier today. They have Verizon service and are in the 231 area code. Beware!

They cant be to smart targeting people who live in the city with the highest unemployment rate in the country. I think I would look for a location with bigger bank accounts if I were to try to scam someone.

I received one on my home phone at 2:30 am and one on my cell phone shortly after 8am. Both of the phones are Verizon. The first one came from Canada and the second one came from Texas.

This scam may be more than just Muskegon, from what I've heard. Someone I know was targeted with the same scam today with a Fifth Third ATM card.

yeah but they are probably the dumbest people in the country and that would explain the highest unemployment rate too.

I got a call on my home phone at 2:16 this morning. Scared me, thinking it was an emergency, I answered it.. It was a recording like stated above about atm card..It wasn't my bank so I didn't respond to it, so I was disconnected. I was going to call on my cell phone, which is altel, but forgot until I started hearing the news about this...... But it sounds like someone already did.. BEWARE of these scammers. Muskegon is the wrong place to call if they want money...

when it is 8:30am and i've only had 2 hours sleep it sounded pretty to me. i've also had times where my atm company has called me to see if certain charges were autherized or not. so yes i gave them my info. but i'm far from being the dumbest, i was just not awake. you really shouldn't judge others. STUPID

Anyone who falls for this SCAM is a moron and deserves to have thier bank account sucked dry.

Come on people, its not that hard to tell that this is a scam. Early morning phone calls or not, you should no better. Your bank with NEVER call you and ask for your account number. Why would they? They already have it!
