National Weather Service confirms tornadoes in five counties
The National Weather Service has concluded tornadoes touched down in five counties as a long-lived supercell thunderstorm moved through Sunday night between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The storm spawned tornadoes as it tracked through Stewart, Chattahoochee, Marion, Taylor and Crawford counties and generated hurricane-force winds in Bibb and Jones counties.
In Crawford County, an EF1 twister touched down at about 6:20 p.m. five miles southwest of Roberta near Walker Chapel Road and tracked northeast crossing U.S. 341 and lifting near Salem Church Road about four miles northeast of Roberta. The damage path was about eight miles long and destroyed nine structures and damaged three others, according to the preliminary storm report from the National Weather Service.
