I hated Florence. Full of hipsters, thugs, and religious bigots. Not to mention the over zealous "Muscle Shoals Sound". They think just because the homo Mick Jagger recorded there that makes them the "Hit Capital of the World". True art is neglected in Florence. What a joke.

The cops are full of manure too. They are the criminals.

No legitimate places to eat natural healthy food.

I totally agree with the ones that don't like Florence. The cops are absolutely overbearing here. They have nothing to do in the middle of the night but look for one lone car out and want to pull them over, and if it's after midnight, they will tell you to go home and threaten to arrest you if they see you out again. And get this... I don't drink and drive, I do NOT do drugs. I don't like it here because there is absolutely NOTHING to do in this small hick town. I even looked it up... that's how I found this site. I had to look at it, because I felt the same way. It said,'Don't move to Florence, Al.' I have always told people that. Yeah, if you're 80or 90 years old AND married, then it may be ok, but if you are singe AND any age, NO! Not a good place to live. Teenagers going absolutely nuts because they are so bored, but they have closed down the things we used to do that was totally harmless when I was a teenager. For one, a place we called 'The Strip.' Well, that's been gone for years and they made it a one way so we couldn't have our simple fun anymore. Anyone remember that? And how harmless it was? Well, after that, there was nothing else to do around here. Skating for awhile at the skating rink, but that's it, until you turned like 14 yrs old. Now there's nothing for these kids to do. Also, Huntsville is the only place you can go for a concert, or Birmingham, but that's a little far. I did a couple of times and Countless times to Huntsville, but you can hardly get the good bands to come to either city anymore because the city's are just to dumpy and won't do anything to improve. One thing I do know, if they would build a civic center here, it would help this economy in Florence, bring people here instead of running people off. Anyway, said enough about this boring city, geez...

I'm not sure how people make money in Florence AL. There are NO high paying jobs. Except maybe if you're a professor at UNA or a doctor. I'm glad I left that hell hole.

I have spent the last 25 years in Florence and it's not a bad place. I live in Atlanta now and absolutely hate it. Florence is pretty pland and slow paced. Believe me, its not a bad thing. As far as the cops, don't be stupid and you have nothing to worry about. They are really nice until you act a fool.

I was born & raised in Florence and the biggest problem with the city is a lack of good paying jobs, they need younger people with new ideas as the mayor & the city needs a face lift. It's look the same since my parents were kids.

I read an older post about the cops being corrupt & I would have to agree. I've always kept my nose clean growing up there, had good parents to raise me to be a good person. But the cops tend to focus on poor blacks and whites there, I've had cops stop me & friends while walking to the store or even going to play just to search us or ask us question. My father who worked for the city of Florence for 33yrs got pulled over while going home because the cop said his truck looked Suspicious. I think a lot of drug and murder cases there should be reopened.

How about this one for a WTF??? Why didn't ex chief of police Rick Thompson do time for his crime in dealing with drugs in the late 90s and he consistently mess up.

Florence is not a good city to live or I should say its only good if you have money. For those who feel my post is B/S just have a chat with the adults who grew up in West & East Florence.

Florence is a wonderful place to shut yourself in your home, turn on your T.V., and die slowly. It is indeed a very nice and quiet place, omit the people who will stop at nothing to find something to gossip about. I have lived many places but have observed a new degree of bigotry, self righteousness, and overall judgmental disposition from this population. The niceness is fake here. Trust no one. No wonder it's quite, the people here can't even stand being around each other. Sorry for the harshness, but anyone thinking of moving here needs to be warned.

Hi, I am looking forward to moving my family to the Northern Alabama area from the Mississippi Delta. I have visited Huntsville, Madison, Florence and Athens and Decatur, AL. I especially fell in love with Huntsville-Madison, Athens and Florence, Al. Any advice is welcome on where to raise two small kids--safe neighborhoods and safe schools. I am a social worker and I am so excited on this major move. Thanks!

If you complain about getting thrown in jail for, oh I don't know, BREAKING THE LAW, i.e. smoking a joint, then I'd really rather NOT have you living in my town anyway. Take your pot somewhere else, druggie.
UNA does need to improve parking, but if you get to class a bit early you're usually O.K. I've been commuting there for years and I always find a parking place. Florence, AL is one of the few unspoiled places to live in the United States today.
Love it or leave it!
..........OK first of all marijuana is a plant all natural and safer than alcohol it cures cancer and epilepsy in children and has never killed any one for oh about 10,000 years don't call some one a druggie for using canibis I bet you are prescribed some kind of pill ..... You are the druggie with your man made made pills welcome to the 21st century oh and ps I am a fomer police officer and Iraqi veteran so before you know the benefits of responsible use shut the hell up and do your own research hillbilly

Let me say one thing: Don't worry about it. There are no cops in this city. The residents speed like crazy, yet still manage that Sunday drive feel where ever you go. Churches on every corner, yes, but that's not always a bad thing. I come from Delaware and this place IS the most affordable place on the whole East coast to live. Rent cheap. Tax so what. Racism, yes, deal with it. I'd gladly put up with the racist bullshit than the hate crimes the happen in Delaware on a regular basis. Here in Florence, there's no loud music, no gas station baby mama drama, no road rage, sure asshole drivers, but actual road rage no. No random acts of violence. How much better can you get it when you can pay your bills and live in a really nice clean place? Seriously, it was 70 on Christmas. Stop complaining and try living in a dump in Delaware. Where the only jobs are at the diners and even a college degree only gets you a part time job if that. Down here, there are over 200 businesses in Florence alone. There aren't even that many in the Kent and Sussex counties of Delaware, And there are only 3 counties in the entire state. Give me break. I sped the whole time I've been here and the cop let me off with a warning. They are so nice they don't even know how to make you wait 30 minutes for them to write the ticket! Give me a break, who are you kidding??
