On Wednesday the President is going to propose sweeping gun control reform. It will be interesting to see how much he attempts to overstep presidential authority with executive orders. Even more interesting will be how the sheople applaud his actions.

The last two presidents have dangerously increased executive power with blatantly Unconstitutional orders, yet no one has had the guts to stand up to them.

Welcome to Amerikka

I hope I am wrong. We will see in a few hours.

Nothing will happen. The gun debate ended a long time ago and the NRA won. We will continue to have mass shootings and live with it.

Guns, while the tool, are not the root of the problem. If they were, when you consider that there are many more guns in Canada, why do we not hear about mass shootings there?

It is our culture of violence, the spoiled brats we raise that say if they don't have it, they can take it; if they don't like you, they can use violence, of parents that have become pathetic teachers of human decency to their own children to come along since Roman times.

And some of it is the media, that makes these losers famous, so that some warped dork-knocker can finally get the attention he craves if he just kills a few classmates.

I do think the gun show loophole should be closed. If Tom buys a gun at a sporting goods store and must pass a background check, so should Joe at the gun show.

I want to see the 23 executive orders, but admittedly, I see nothing but common sense in the President's speech.

While it certainly doesn't constitute "many more", if only rifles are considered, Canada is almost on par with per capita ownership with the US.

I agree... but passing some of the new laws will be hard to do in this Congress... the republicials are in bed with the NRA and the gun lobby.

But, it needs to happen... no one needs 30 rounds to go deer hunting, if they do they need to quit hunting or do some target practice.

I've got all the home protection I need with my 38.

The highest speed limit in the U.S.is 85mph (in texas not ky)so if your car will go over that you have no need for it all you "need" is an old clunker that just gets you there and back. Shooting is a recreational sport that many law abiding citizens of this country enjoy. 2% of killings in this country involve weapons with hi-cap mags. If gun control works then move to chicago,it should be the safest city in the country. We all know how that is working out right?

Pro-gun groups give 3 times as much money to the Democratic party and candidates as do gun control groups.

The only thing that is going to change is the degree of wadding that occurs in the panties of the gun nuts.

Could someone explain how keeping my friends and I from buying, selling and trading guns is going to stop a crazy person from killing innocent people. If a criminal wants to kill 20 people you don't need a 30 round clip to do it.I'm glad to see Congressman Whitfield come out against our so called "president" that by the way with all his by-passing of congress he's done the last four years seems to want to be a ruler not president.

That presumes that speed is the only desired consequence of engine power and transmission gearing. Perhaps you "need" to pull a trailer.

The greatest number of homicides are domestic violence related. Who would need a HCM for that? But what is the percentage for mass killings involve weapons with HCMs?

Why single out Chicago? Why not look at other countries? Consider Switzerland, which a lot of gun lovers bring up as one of the safest countries in the world, and most of them think it is because every able bodied man has an assault weapon in their closet. But if you look beyond that there are craploads of gun control laws: those assault weapons are no longer issued with ammo (if called up, reservist are issued ammo then), you need a permit to buy and another permit to posses a gun. You can't carry it around with you, concealed or open, unless you are officially authorized.

So it's okay for the feds to allow "assault" weapons to walk across the border into Mexico for drug cartels to use to kill folks but we're going to be restricted in what we can own?
I think not.
Not a single official in the administration has been called to account for Fast and Furious and yet now they're the same bunch that are jumping up and down and demanding that we should submit to endless restrictions on guns and ammo. Worse yet, they look like Hitler and Stalin up there with a bunch of children saying we should accept this crap because "the children" are demanding it. Hey, my children used to demand candy and ice cream for breakfast but that didn't convince me to give it to them.

Million Mom march by the left, let's roll with the people who have common sense with second amendment rights and who know that a ban on weapons wont stop criminals or insane individuals, let's show the liberal losers what the sea of red looks like. Also let's tell them that food doesn't grow on asphalt or concrete, only liberal idiots.

Feinstein Gun Control Bill to Exempt Government Officials

8:06 AM, Jan 25, 2013 By DANIEL HALPER

Not everyone will have to abide by Senator Dianne Feinstein's gun control bill. If the proposed legislation becomes law, government officials and others will be exempt.

"Mrs. Feinstein's measure would exempt more than 2,200 types of hunting and sporting rifles; guns manually operated by bolt, pump, lever or slide action; and weapons used by government officials, law enforcement and retired law enforcement personnel," the Washington Times reports.

The Huffington Post confirms these exemptions, and adds that guns owned prior to the legislation becoming law will be permissible, too. "[T]he bill includes a number of exemptions: It exempts more than 2,200 hunting and sporting weapons; any gun manually operated by a bolt, pump, lever or slide action; any weapons used by government officials and law enforcement; and any weapons legally owned as of the date of the bill's enactment."

The bill's measures include stopping "the sale, manufacture and importation of 158 specifically named military-style firearms and ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. It would also ban an additional group of assault weapons that accept detachable ammunition magazines and have at least one military characteristic," according to the Huffington Post.

The left-leaning website adds: "Other new provisions include requiring background checks on all future transfers of assault weapons covered under the bill and eliminating the 10-year sunset that allowed the original ban to expire."
