interesting. David Griffin hires a management consultant twice and not only does Chuck not take the advice, he blatantly does the opposite. so, why would anyone think the third time is the charm?

On the topic of Sarah, there are two ways most people look at things. People either do the right thing or the wrong thing. For everyone including the managers at CAJ, Sarah Jones, Chuck Jones, the managers at SEB they all chose to do the wrong thing. They chose to get rich by ripping people off. Did any of them honestly beleive that they were so valuable to a company they, that they made so much money for CAJ that they should all get company escalades and cadillacs? Did they honestly believe that they are so much better at business than 99% of America. No they all sucked in the money, they knew it was wrong. They closed the Butcher Block because it was in the hole hundreds of thousands of dollors and yet they pay Sarah Mastera thousands or dollars and give her an escalade to manage thier retail stores?????? WHAT A JOKE!!!!!!!!!! No person in thier right mind would pay that much to someone when 1 of the 5 retail stores was that far in the hole. Everyone who works for him knows what's going on, they chose to drink the Kool Aid and they should all go to hell

actually, it's quite well founded. if you read the memorandum in support of the motion to appoint a receiver and the exhibits that accompany it, you'd see that an overwhelming factual basis for all of the claims in the complaint has been established.

what is missing however is any legal attempt from ca jones management to refute the allegations put forth in any of griffin's filings. chuckie may have weaseled his way into a 3-month extension on the motion to appoint a receiver but he is apparently content allowing the community at large to perceive him as a grifter and a fraud.

he's just buying time to attempt settlement because he cannot win on the merits of the case.

Jowl, how do we know you're not making this up? What are the initials of the guy you spoke to? Or the first initial even? That sounds a little suspect to me...

We need some proof here instead of "I heard from someone in the inner circle" or "one of his top guys". That sounds like hearsay to me.

Really what does looking into mr. Griffins lifestyle have to do with much. This thread is about a local community leader who has assumed the thrown of owner of most of Murray, Citizen of the year (again of murray), and philanthropist of murray. Im more interested in what is going to happen to the people i know that work for CAJ in murray and a little curious about what happens to chuck after my own lackluster encounters with the man. I will never meet mr. griffin and have dealings with him.

I don't think you get it. We don't care about how dirty Griffin in. We're more concerned with the dirt in our own backyard.

Hound Dog, I think you hit the nail on the head.

No one on this discussion board is really concerned with facts or truth. Most, if not all, are concerned with dirt; juicy gossip about the potential demise of a person few of you even know personally.

Here’s the real truth, folks: the links to court documents posted on this forum don’t represent truth. They are allegations. For years people believed the earth was flat (much like Griffin believes the claims contained in his Complaint are true). They had all sorts of reason and logic to back up their theory that the earth was flat (much like the exhibits Griffin’s attorneys provided in addition to the memorandum in support the motion to appoint a receiver). But at the end of the day the theory that the earth is flat is just that: a theory. And at the end of the day, Griffin’s complaints and accusations are just allegations.

Unfortunately, jealousy, boredom, unhappiness, or a combination, have spurred a firestorm of hateful and hurtful comments that really have no basis.

If we’re being completely honest, very few people actually know Chuck. If you've worked for one of his companies, you really only know the manager to whom you reported. If you're a member of the community, you really only know him from an encounter or two. And maybe that’s enough for you to form an opinion. But I think we’d all be at a disadvantage if our reputations were based on first impressions or second-hand information.

It’s very discouraging that so many people from our own community are sitting around waiting and hoping for the downfall of a business person. I can guarantee Chuck, his family and his managers don’t sit around and hope for the demise of local citizens and businesses – that certainly wouldn’t be good for our local economy.

So why doesn’t Chuck come right out and defend himself and his companies? I would assume it’s because you can’t fight stupid.

You can fight stupid, but you can't fix it.

There are quite a few people here who've been personally burned by Chuck different ways, most of them who've worked for him for a long time. They're the ones who was with Chuck close to the beginning of his start in Murray and therefore would be the ones I think would know the most regarding the man's scruples.

The biggest problem I have with the situation is that I can see where claims like the ones that have surfaced have come from. I've known at least half a dozen folks who worked for him over the years and all ultimately were left with a bitterness. Chuck gives money to complete strangers, but if former employees are to be believed he's stingy, unrepentant, cold-hearted, uncaring about anything except the bottom line, and only willing to give out as extra compensation or morale boosting the only things that don't cost him money: words.

I've always heard you can tell a lot about a person by the way they treat their waitresses. You can also tell a lot about someone by the way they treat their subordinates. A good leader praises his help for their successes. Chuck seems to think he's done it all on his own. No man is an island.

Theres a reason no one is making money in textbooks anymore. Not sure why CAJ should be the exception. The world may not be flat, but something we've all been told since birth applies here: if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.

An employee CBR told me they are working 7 days a week because they are having huge sales trying to get rid of books. She makes 7.25 an hour. Worked over 21 days in a row. So why are they having a huge sale? Trying to make as much money as possible maybe? Also he really cares about employees making them work that much for that little pay. Plus anywhere iv ever worked that required you to work on the 7th day pays you double time. He only pays time and a half. But I'm sure his management team won't be caught working on sunday's and they make millions.

Untrue. I worked for Chuck. Directly for him. Not for a manager. This was a couple of years ago. Like a leopard doesn't change it's spots, I'm sure he is no different - lying, greedy, only concerned about his well being - not his employees well being - and generally being a pompous ass.

He lied to the community. It's not jealousy or boredom or unhappiness - its the freaking truth! He lied to school
Districts to get e rate money, he lied to clients for his own gain, he lied to investors about finances. Much like he pulled the wool over the communities eyes by giving away money when his companies were losing money to make him appear in a better light. He breached his fiduciary duty to Griffin by not downsizing or doing whatever was nessecary to make a profit - giving money away - even 50$- why would you do that if you were losing money?

Chuck has been the same for 15 years. Who will he take advantage of next?

So - why would you provide managers escalades instead of used economy cars if you are losing money?

And why a 1200$ glass marker board when whiteboard is 32$ for a 4x8 sheet at lowes?
