New Wave Cable

Just thought I'd warn folks....since New Wave Cable has been bought by Time Warner, they let Time Warner spy on your Internet use and act as police if you download things you're not supposed to, like music, movies or TV Programs, via a Bit Torrent program. Please bear in mind that I am not arguing whether these acts are illegal or not, I just don't like my local cable company being the cops for Time Warner. And they have their own little side business going on in Murray where if you get caught downloading stuff like HBO TV shows, they'll cut off your Internet and actually expect you to cart your computer tower (processor) downtown where they have a guy check it and swipe it clean of any Time Warner products. Whoever that guy is, he make a handy profit doing that too. I refused to cooperate with their little plans, and cut all my services with New Wave, including telephone, TV cable and Internet. Luckily Time Warner may own New Wave's a$$, but they don't own Murray yet...there are still competitors

To clarify, my comment meant that they've been doing that for a long time. They threatened that I would have to fork my computer over for a "search and removal" type of deal if I was caught downloading anything else. I laughed in their faces, switched providers, and never looked back.

I would love to see somebody try to get into my computer. The hard drive is password protected, along with my OS, and any meaningful activity on the computer requires a password as well. Pigs would fly before any ISP employee would tamper with my data.

Yes this is true they cut my Internet off until I deleted the movie I had down loaded. When I called they said u get like 3 chances then they lock your equipment up and you have to take it to get it fixed.

This is someone true but mostly false. NNL do not allow them to spy on what your doing online. They cannot see if your downloading anything illegal. They don't even have the tech to do it.

Here is what they can and do do:
If you use slot of bandwidth they will start to throttle you back. Say you get the 50mps and use 48mps for 8 hours a day every dau they will cut your allowed bandwidth in half or more. Time Warner is insanely bad about it and the FFC will gladly take your complaint on it.

If you use Bit-whatever you are sharing with other users. Time Warner pays people to share over these networks so that they can record your number. They then will inform their local office, or your ISP should it be MME, and they will warn you. I know MME shuts off your net until you call them. TW does ask you to bring in the PC so they can check it. They have no legal right for this and are little more than a paper tiger.

Keep in mind that as long as NNL stay in the books they can't block any sites. Your best bet when downloading files is to use something like BTguard.

I won't say I break the law but I know
More than most about these issues and no what they can and cannot do.

I will also add that TW tends to over charge a lot....

Use BTguard 6.95$ a month. Paypal. Fool proof.

I am so glad others have had these problems and some are cutting their service to these bastards! Carry on!

Yeah, I thought they were kidding, but when they took the wrong step and told me they were serious, I cut my service off and never looked back. Damn, it feels good to be a gangster.

On a sidenote, Murray Electric is a wonderful ISP if you're like the other millions of people who torrent and download music.
