In Nov. the Dept of Ag. reported 47,102,780 individuals on food stamps. Must still be Bush's fault

I say we end welfare, end Medicaid, and end food stamps. If people can't provide for themselves then society doesn't need them. You must earn your right to exist in this country.

Who are you to judge anyone? The unemployment rate is through the roof, jobs are hard to come by. Guess you would just have people starve. You are a pathetic "human being".

Jobs are not hard to come by. I see places listing jobs all the time. People just want something for nothing.

All of you are correct, at least partially.

Lots of people do not want to work. That is true.

But lots of people are trying, and need some help. That is true too.

The hard part is weeding through the red tape and punishing the abusers of the system.

Drug testing would help for a start.

Oh, heck yeah. I agree.

In fact, if you receive a government check of any sort - welfare, food stamps, social security, paycheck as a cop or a teacher or a bus driver or a Congressman - you should have to submit to random drug testing.

I get welfare. I get food stamps. I get free medical care from your taxes. Thank you.

I would have anything if I didn't do anything. That's why my tax free high paying side sales job provides me with the cash flow I need. All you need is a cell phone ( provided by you) and a inventory of high demand items.

Just because you can't fathom what I do don't hate the messenger.

Really it should apply to services as well as money. If you use public roads, call the police, call the fire department, rely on electricity that requires the power grid, get your trash picked up, use the sewer system, drink tap water or use it for shower/dishes/laundry, go to the library, went to public school, are free thanks to the military, eat food that relies on FDA inspection, breath air that is clean thanks to the clean air act, etc...

I think that many people just don't have pride anymore.
Sure, there are legitimate cases where welfare is needed.
Then you have the ones that seem to feel entitled to get what they can for free. And will resort to scamming in order to get food stamps and other freebies. Yet have money for cigarettes, drugs, and alcohol.

People should use food stamps as a last resort. Not get on food stamps so they can use their money to maintain unnecessary habits.

Obviously, some people don't have their priorities in the right place and pride seems to be a thing of the past for most.

I say random drug testing for everything from tobacco to meth. Also mandatory classes on life skills.

I feel that people fall into two categories. Ones that truely need them, and the ones that are scammers who use food stamps so they can continue to maintain buying cigarettes, drugs, and alcohol.

Food stamps and other government assistance should
be used as a last resort. Whatever happened to pride?

I think random drug tests from tobacco to meth would be a great start. As well as mandatory classes on life skills.

That would be super. It will never happen.

You have to have a license to hunt or fish or drive a car, but any dumbass with genitals can produce a baby...and we all will have to help pay to raise it.

We should drug test everybody. There is no reason to not make sure citizens are not breaking the law. It's time we got serious about ending our drug problem once and for all.

I hope you really don't believe this 100%. There are people that really need help. I agree that able bodied people should be working and contributing to something. It sickens me to see strong healthy adults receiving assistance when they are not trying to help themselves, however there are circumstances when people really need help. Is it fair to not help the individual that is hurt or sick and unable to work for a year or so, but will be able to work in the future, they simply need time to recover? My pet peeve is all the young adults on disability because of depression. Have we all not been depressed at some time - I get depressed every time I see one of them on disability because of their nerves. We have so many abusers of the system.
