You need to apply at places that don't require a high school education because you lack of education is showing. Read the newspaper, try to comprehend, maybe you could watch the news once in a while and you might notice this is happening all over the country. If you don't have better things to do than bash a man that defended his country many times and is working to save our hospital, you don't need to be here, and yes,I also had a pay cut.

Everyone feels entitled but we are not.
One of the major reasons the hospital is struggling is it furnishes care to those who can't pay unlike private hospitals.
MCCH has 3 types of patients. Those who can't pay, those the government tells what they will pay Medicare and Medicare and those who can pay with insurance.
Why are the costs high? The payers are the only patients who they can cover the other costs.
Sorry people lost their jobs. The hospital is not the federal government and can't print money.
Hope you won't boycott the hospital we need a good hospital
with emphasis on the good..... we do need a good hospital and good doctors, but looks like obama care will take care of all that. like it or not.

I am one of the blessed employees who was not laid off in this round. I feel so torn for all of the people who lost their jobs, insurance, and feeling of security. Let's look at this situation with open eyes. Financial problems did not occur overnight. Since Mr. Poston retired we have not seen an effective CEO until now. Mr. Penner took on this hospital knowing it was in dire straits. He has worked in every aspect to keep employees working, patients well cared for, and the organization as a whole intact. I dont know if he will be able to keep our little community hospital alive or not. With the constant cuts in reimbursement, government changes, and changes in the level of sicknesses we see, he has a tough job. Let me just throw out a few things the average public might not realize. When a medicaid patient uses the emergency room as their routine doctors office, the hospital loses a ton of money. Since the establishment of the new MCO's in Kentucky, we have not been reimbursed over 2 million dollars. Keep in mind these are services already provided. Medicare keeps decreasing what they will cover for seniors and how much they will reimburse for what they do approve. Do you think that everyone that gets a 20% bill is able to just write the hospital a check that very month? Of course not. The hospital has been very generous in keeping patients who needed more care, even when their insurance was kicking them out! If you present to the emergency room right now, you will be treated, regardless of whether you ever pay your bill or what type of insurance you might have. Many many private hospitals are now REQUIRING payment before your treatment even begins. Can you imagine if your child had been screaming nonstop for the last 6 hours with a moderate fever and you were first time parents. Our hospital takes your child into the ER and lets you know your precious little one has developed an ear infection. They do not stop you at the front door and see if your credit card is good or if you have cash on hand.
To conclude, unfortunately due to the system our government and states have set up over many years. We now believe we are ENTITLED to healthcare no matter what. The days of that are coming to an abrupt end. Not just in Murray, but everywhere. Before I have grandchildren, we will see the day when you cannot afford to seek medical care at the drop of a hat. It will be just like going to the store, you pay for what you purchase, before you leave. It is going to be a terrible thing for the middle class and those with limited income, but it is coming. We are still so blessed that we have our community hospital. I truly believe Mr. Penner is doing everything he can to keep our hospital safe and open for the future of our community. Not every decision is going to be perfect, he is a human after all. The board has made some serious errors in the past and we are reaping the consequences. They are human too. I am praying for our hospital, our employees, current and past, and our administration. I would not want the job they have at this time.

Simple 3rd grade math will show you that Obama Care will never work!
Unfortunately our community and employees at the hospital are going to experience this harsh reality firsthand over the next several years.

I think the board members like Larry Elkins, Darnell, Owens,Penner and the rest of the board members need to explain to all these families why they lost their jobs, why they cant put food on their table and why they didnt get a least a 2 weeks notice. Also, why would they build on to the hospital if the board members new the hospital was in this shape. I feel for the families. I think the board members should be held responsible for this. I think they need to step forward now and let the people know WHY? Oh but you dont hear from them now, but Elkins, Penner and all them sure were there to get their pics in the paper when the NEW addition was being built.

Was Penner even here when the new building was approved. You can say what you want about him, but you can't blame him for the $50 million elephannt the city now has to pay for.

One of the main reasons institutions fail in and around Murray is the massive Cronyism and Nepotism that seeps through the pores of our society. If you continue to hire incompetence at all levels of your organization you will fail. Bubba and Bubbaline cannot fix what they don’t know? Education coupled with experience in addition to leadership or positive leadership exposure leads to success. We elect local leaders with minimal education place them on boards and expect them to perform. Not!!!!! Elkins is a dumbass, the only reason he and others have maintained their elected positions within the community is sympathy. Another case in point; “Ray Coursey” if he wasn’t in that wheel chair he would be watching Dr. Phil daily. But we feel sorry for him and so it goes on and on!!!

You local dipsticks are your own worse nightmare. You create the problem and now you want to cry about it. Tough, I am laughing my ass off. I grew up here and thank god I moved away and became successful.

my husband and i both work full time jobs and raise our children and put food on the table. neither of our jobs offer health care and our children have a medical card while we both have nothing. on the rare occasion we need to see a doctor we pay out of pocket and buy meds out of pocket. there is no way we can afford even the lowest health insurace. it is near the same as we pay for our monthly mortgage payment. so what makes us such bad ppeople that we should just die before we receive care? we live within our means and pay our monthly bills. we do not have luxury vehicles or credit cards nor do our children walk around with smart phones or us for that matter. we have no choice but to go without health insurance!! does that make me of less worth than someone that does?

While the government is to blame for a small piece of this ball of shit, and maybe a small piece is Mr. Penner, but the real downfall to MCCH boils down to the fact that that bought out serveral doctors offices in order to compete with Dr. Robert Hughes. If you take a stressed budget with a new tower and add every doctor, the whole office staff, and the overhead, the hospital could not make enough money to support it all. My hearts go out the all the staff that is still there because they are dedicated, and to the doctors and employees that got laid off. Dr. Bumb, Christopher, jones, and yee all let for a reason.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about primary care. Personally, I hate primary care and it did take a lot away from the hospital.
