Can't believe no one has said anything about Mike and Michelle Garland from the latest write up in the paper. He was indicted on many charges including the weapons, seemed like some kind of prescription pill charges as well, however it was not specific. There was even a theft charge thrown in there. What happened to all the high and mighty people that were supporting him before? Did you see the light of day, no one is perfect, and lots of stuff goes on behind closed doors!

Mike needs to step down. Calloway County even made USA Today under state news on Monday about this. It's an embarrisment to the community and he needs to stop worrying about being coroner and focus on himself and family. What kind of person would steal from families during their most trying times?! Eight counts, including six felonies, and official misconduct. The thing is too, he's still in power and even still working at J.H. Churchill, just the person I want to see when I show up for a funeral. He's already admitted fault to save his wife but that hasn't seem to help. Enough is enough... RESIGN!!!

This Mike from Murray has Garland hung from the raftors already! What about giving an otherwise good community member a chance to prove himself. All the man has admitted to is possessing the marijuana, none of the other allegations have been proven! The jury's still out on the man, let's give this time to "play out".

Lets analize what we know. Mike and his wife wife were both charged with felonies. He was charged with cultivation over 5 plants and possesion with firearms enhancement. She was charge with possession with firearms enhancement. The State police that investigated this matter did not charge with anything else. Nothing to do with prescritions or theft or offical misconduct. The prosecutor did not move to amend the charges to include any new charges despite the fact that the appeared in court two times on this case. At the last hearing, the Judge through out the firearm enhancements saying that there was no evidence that the firearms were involved. The prosecuter agreed and those charges were dropped. Both the prosecuter and judge were from different counties because the locals correctly stepped out of the case. So we have the police, the prosecutor, and the judge not charging with anything else, but a bunch of untrained people charge with multiple felonies and re-instates the firearmse charge despite the judge throwing it out. Until all the facts come in, I will go with the charges the police, prosecuter, and judge thought were correct.

give mike garland a chance, didnt he get a chance when he was elected coronor.
since he is a member of law enforcement should that come with the territory of knowing right from wrong, or least knowing what is legal or illegal, i mean come on , what do you mean give the guy a break, he was caught red handed, just like the good old deputy sheriff. I mean you people do remember max parrish, these dirty officials all need to go to jail....
MOre power to the KSP> FBI or whomever is behind bringing these criminals to justice.

They all know what they are doing, some think if they are in the job for the higher up that they can get away with it and not get suspected or caught, Wrong!

It said that he was charged with theft, it did not say for what. It also had in the article in the Murray Ledger that he was charged with possession of a legends drug (which is prescription drugs) and he was also charged with possession of a controled substance. It kind of made it seem like he was stealing medicine from dead people he was picking up. It did not say that in the paper but it left you to assume he was stealing from dead people. However that may not be the case.

kyladi, that is the most stupid assumption I may have ever seen drawn on this discussion board. I don't know how in the world you can get from growing pot to stealing from dead people.

Read the Paducah Sun article or file an open records request and you'll see in detail what all he is charged with. The official misconduct comes from the theft of the drugs. The Sun did a much better job on reporting just how serious the charges are.

No, dmc that is not a stupid assumption...if he was growing pot and of course you know the pot gets sold...and some of it ends up on the school playground...how would u like that for your child??

you make it sound like its okay , because its mike garland? what are you related or bling????

Not all pot is grown for selling, some people, and I think Mike is included in that group, grow it for personal consumption, especially if they have a reputation to maintain and don't want to go around trying to buy it off a bunch of drug dealers who would sell them down the river if THEY were busted.

I think the amount of marijuana that ends up on "the school playground" is minimal and if there is any, it was most likely stolen from some kid's parents. Its not like children have jobs that can support a marijuana habit and I would think that few drug dealers would want to take the risk of maintaining a child as a regular customer. It just doesn't make sense, the reward would not outweigh the risk.

I knew Mike a long time ago, right after he got out of high school but I haven't spoken to him in many years. As I recall he liked to party back then so the pot charges don't really shock me or bother me. Personally, I think they ought to legalize it so that it can be regulated like alcohol is, and law enforcement can concentrate on the really dangerous drugs like meth and cocaine. But it is illegal now and as such it is improper behavior for an elected official.

But I don't believe for one minute that Mike stole from dead people.
