New Lode supervisors favored by development, real estate interests
Real estate and development interests in Calaveras County sighed with relief Wednesday while community activists and environmentalists licked their wounds and regrouped.

An editorial in the Calaveras Enterprise outlined systemic building code violations and that the
building department under Ray Waller, was operating as a special interest to developers and others.
Calaveras building inspector whistleblower, Steve Weber, was fired by Waller after revealing an unprecedented level of illegal building code violations that essential created an unregulated free for all at the building department. Weber had documented over 10-years of altered inspection reports, blue prints, and code violations.
As an L.A. building inspector Weber won awards for his ability to ferret out illegal builds, this would be discouraged in Calaveras.
Waller's attorney, Chris William's, indicted in court documents that Weber committed suicide in 2007 and apparently Weber's documentation vanished. The Calaveras district attorney and superior court/grand jury, Tryon and other's gasped a sigh of relief.
With Weber's mysterious suicide there was no one left to protect the public interest. Calls to the Coroner's office in Sacramento with Weber's DOB from the Calaveras sheriff's
(Weber filed a complaint in 2006) indicated that no Weber had died in Sacramento, so I called the Coroner's in El Dorado, Calaveras, and Placerville, ditto. We can deduce that Weber's suicide is still under a likely federal investigation.
I spoke with Steve Weber in April 2007, Steve was at a San Andreas copy store with bundles of his complaint materials, he was focused and very intent on pursuing the allegations. After much research and reading whistleblower books there wasn't one case of a whistleblower killing themselves, though there were many cases of whistleblowers being murdered.
Weber also took his complaints to the grand jury and like us, under foreman, supervisor elect, Gary Tofanelli, the issues were buried and never investigated
It is likely there are hundreds or thousands of illegally coded homes in Calaveras county from 1985-2005 that the public, homeowner's and potential buyer's need to be aware of.
We need an investigation on all these issues. Tryon and Tofanelli's job is to assure we never have one.
