Have the Cherokees started work on the gaming facility? We haven't been out that way lately.

Also, does anyone have any new info concerning the facility.

They have not bought the tribal land yet and if Patrick Lambert wins the Chief's job it will not be built on that tract but nearer to Murphy near Snap-On.

So, are you saying that all that money they spent on that land is not where the facility will be ?????

If Lambert is elected Chief that is what I am saying my crystal ball is cracked after the Cherokee Co election so I cannot predict the winner.

Would make much more since for it to be in a location closer to town if they want it to be successful. Why did they choose this crazy location anyway? I am surprised they didn't try and put it in HangingDog. Sounds like very poor planning on their part.

Sounds like Mr. Lambert is thinking more logically on location. It would be a real shame for the facility to be a flop. Especially when these jobs are greatly needed in our area.

When is the election? Praying to get a new administration in that will work FOR the PEOPLE, and not for themselves. No one can honestly say that the land that was purchased in Marble is the prime location for a gaming facility, No one can honestly say that the golf course that was purchased and has left the tribe in MILLIONS of dollars of debt was for the people. 60 million dollars of the minor's fund lost. And the list goes on and on. I hope the next Chief/Vice Chief that gets in, can undo the mess that has been created by this administration.

The land has already been purchased and the deeds transferred (saw the transfers in the Cherokee Scout).... there's no getting out of that mess if they decide to put the facility elsewhere.

Actually, the planned facility is not IN Marble NC .... it's closer to Murphy than to Marble.

You are right Boodoodle. I think it would be nearly impossible to undo the burden/debt that has been created for the tribe. Probably what I should have said was "I hope the next Chief/Vice Chief that gets elected will have a more positive effect on the tribe than this one did.

If Lambert is elected chief the Marble casino will not be built. The casino is one mile from the Marble Post Office and it is closer to Marble than Murphy. The Murphy location is land owned already by the EBCI the land in Marble has been purchased for $6.2 million approx but the land called tribal land owned by a member has not yet been purchased. The Murphy site would require access and reportedly an owner has offered the access land for free because the other property this individual owns would become much more valuable.

If access has been offered for FREE to the better site, why may I ask would they BUY the land in Marble for $6.2 million and still not have any tribal land to build upon? Also, are you saying that Lambert will or will not put a gaming facility in Cherokee Co? We desperately need the jobs here.

I do not know if he{Lambert} will put a casino in Cherokee Co but sources have told me if he is elected He will try to move the location to Murphy near Snapon tools. There have been allegations the Marble location was chosen because of adjacent landowners ties to Chief Hicks. The election is in the fall and if Chief Hicks could close the deal and get construction underway it would lock in the Marble location. The golf course in Cherokee has been a huge money loser.

I just can't see the Cherokee's okaying losing 6.2 million dollars that they spent on the land deal. That just doesn't make good economic sense. I don't see any problems with building the facility where they bought the land. The way the Chief talked they will be adding different projects every year and that takes a LOT of land. The land close to Snap On doesn't look big enough to me.

Boodoodle,
You're right, the property near Snap-On Tools does NOT have room for expansion other than the gaming facility because of the rugged terrain. BUT, the fact that Patrick Lambert OWNS Tribal Land in that area is the reason he would want the facility located there. Does that make sense?
The property in Marble has lots of room for added expansion, such as hotels, restaurants, gift shops, and other businesses galore, which is great for Cherokee County and all the taxes and jobs it would create.
This opportunity for Cherokee County should NOT revolve around POLITICS with the Cherokees! After all, there are several Cherokees living in Cherokee County that could also benefit from the expansion offered in Marble.

I believe the EASTERN BAND of CHEROKEE own land near Snap On, not Patrick personally. You can always call and ask the Realty Office in Cherokee at the BIA for confirmation. I think Patrick's name has come up because he has promised some people that if he is elected Chief he will build near snap on to benefit the Wells.(rumor only)

If the chief has done such a great deal with this land in Marble, What is the hold up?

I have heard that the chief has promised an older lady that owns land near Snap-On that he would buy her land for gaming. Not the Wells property. The way I understand it, the Wells were going to GIVE FREE right-of-way to the indians. And yes, good business sense would tell you that it will benefit them on down the road. Why didn't the people who sold the land in Marble give Free Right of Way to the tribal land? Why did they pay that much money for land that they HAVE to pay taxes on, and still cannot put the gaming on?

They have not yet purchased the tribal land for the casino in Marble and it must be on tribal land. There are rumors of connections of people owning the property around this location having connections with Chief Hicks and that is why they bought this property for over six million instead of using property they already own. The election this fall will reveal the tribes feelings on this fiasco and the golf course which has and is costing the tribe millions and it is a loser.

Patrick Lambert does indeed own a tract of tribal land behind Snap On. However the group of people that did research on that property turned it down because of the layout of the land. It doesn't allow room for expansion like the Marble tract does, no matter if Wells did promise to grant "free" access to it. Apparently the "free" access included a bridge across the river there that supposedly NC State would build, however, NOT, according to the state officials.
