Well, they don't seem to be boycotted by anyone, at least according to my cable news channels.

"So what was it Cathy said to get his company banned from three of the largest cities in America? A reporter from a Baptist magazine, the Biblical Recorder, asked him about his 'company's support of the traditional family.' Replied Cathy:'Well, guilty as charged ... We are very much supportive of the family - the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.'

at the supermarket, you can buy ground beef in a package, OR you can go to the butcher and HAVE THEM GRIND IT...
right there, in front of your face...
did you know that?
guess what skyrocketed in sales after the news broke on pink slime?
butcher ground beef....
guess what rotted on the shelf?
Prepackaged ground beef.
get it yet?
And was that the result of an organized boycott, or media hype?

Did the meat that "rotted on the shelf" after "the news broke" (i.e. media hype) contain pink slime? How could anyone tell if it did?

Not all supermarkets that have butchers on duty grind the meat "in front of your face" either. Usually they are in an enclosed space with a viewing window for sanitary reasons.

Do YOU get it yet?

I'd say the coverage informed the people who REFUSED TO BUY meat that MAY contain slime...
and it worked IMMEDIATELY.

how is that not a boycott again?

The coverage happened a year ago as well...what was the difference this last time around?
PEOPLE STOPPED BUYING.

Who organized this "boycott" other than the media?

People stopped buying plane tickets after 9/11, was that a boycott too?

when people decide to not buy out of protest...what do you call it?

that it was precipitated by the news is of no consequence.

9/11 was out of fear, not protest.

this isn't that complicated.

They have all been targeted by right wing groups to be boycotted. The most recent was the maker of Oreos, due to a rainbow filling. And for the record I believe none of them have been successful.

Pink slime wasn't out of fear? No? The media didn't spin it as a lurking danger - that all those bleached scraps weren't "somehow" dangerous?

Seems the pink slime "boycott" isn't that much more of a reach than a post 9/11 "boycott"

Those chikin lines yesterday were amazing! Imagine how the lines to vote will stretch in November when Americans line up to Get Tea.

we are finer than a human hair here...

yes, boycotts do work, yes they are often charged by the media...(how wlse do we find out about stuff)

But I agree, the political ones unrelated to the products like the gays with chik-fil-a or the bible thumpers with Ellen do not work.

Let's not forget all the beach resorts that are boycotted after shark attacks.......LOL

Negative PR about a product is the most effective boycott, the ones over some "outrage" the least, maybe we can agree on that!

Now let's all sing kumbayah!

Try this, good "boycott and the name of the company". As a matter of fact most of them have had threads at one time or another here on Topix.

By the way, Joe, I just googled "boycotts by anti-gay groups, and got 32,500 listings. I haven't read them all, of course, but I'm sure, if you want to waste the time, you could probably find all the names I mentioned in there. But even if you don't, the individaul companies are not important, but rather the fact that my original point is made.
