I've been noticing a lot of gas stations that are IGA gas stations. I understand Houchens owns many different chains like JR Foods and then their various grocery stores. I've been noticing in Bowling Green that almost every Shell station I stop at is an IGA station. IGA is on the receipt.

I dislike IGA. I think they are a very evil corporation and would like to not give my money to them except in extreme circumstances. Does anyone know the various gas stations around that are IGA gas stations? I know Raiders Inn is IGA and the Shell beside the Corvette Museum is and the shell close to the intersection of 31W and Nashville Road is as well. Any more IGA stations that I should steer clear of? It's unfortunate that I don't know they are IGA until I get my receipt or go inside. Usually I don't go inside to pump gas though.

Jennifer, I understand you have your opinion on IGA but why do you dislike them so much? I work for them & am very happy with my job. Houchens employees hundreds of ppl which is a very good thing in this day & time when so many are losing their jobs daily. It's not the highest paying job out there but I'm just thankful to have it!!

I won't speak for her but I'm gonna go with it being the of date groceries at a higher price. My opinion is it's a salvage store and if you know it going in then you make the choice. It's a Trojan horse. For those of you who have no freaken idea what a Trojan horse is I will explain briefly. It appears to be something it's not. Learn something new all the time don't you morons?

I can tell you I have never stocked out of date groceries on the sheleves where I work. Its not just one store where prices are going up its about every store.By the way, are you calling me a moron because I work at IGA? If so then I'd rather be considered a working moron than a lazy ass moron.

What did you read in my post that would indicate you being a moron because you work at IGA? The reference was those who wouldn't know the meaning behind the term Trojan horse. I figure now you do lack an education in sixth grade reading comprehension but we can't have it all.

They hire people at the bare minimum and keep them on part time to keep from having to pay them benefits. I know many people who have worked for Houchens for years and are making less than 10.00 an hour and have NO benefits. They are also a nickel and dime bunch of bastards and they really do jack up the prices on their merchandise. Stores like Kroger and Myers have better deals than Houchens.
Their gas is also terrible. Every time I've gotten gas at an IGA gas station it doesn't take long for my car to run through it. BP, Chevron, Luvs, Petro etc gas stays in my tank longer. I'm not joking. THAT is why I dislike them. They are a lousy corporation.

It's also nice to know that you'll settle for the bare minimum instead of DEMANDING higher pay. They employ people like yourself that are "just happy to have a job" so they can keep paying you guys low wages. Maybe you guys should think about a union. Then again..this isn't union country. They have chains all over the southeast and yet they STILL pay minimum wage.

yeah that's realistic.

It's sad that people are so stupid here that they don't notice these things! It's people like you guys who enable big corporations to walk over the little people.

I have worked for Houchens Industries for 5 years . Under the savalot banner. The first 3.5 years were good . But that changed with a new division manager from New York. Since his arrival I have been cut $2 an hour also cut 5 hours a week. I have 32 years experience.4 in grocery and 28 in meat. Employees used to be treated with respect. I'm now treated like I just got into the business. No RESPECT .

I worked for Houchens after they bought out Scotty's. They never treated me bad and the ESOP was really good. I have moved on to a factory job and doing really well so I don't miss them at all. The thing about it is how much should a person make that stocks shelves or rings you up at the register. That is not a 10.00 an hour job maybe 8.00 but never the less if you don't like it quit go to a temp service they will have you working in a couple of days. They start around 9.00 dollars an hour so hey you wont be losing that much money anyway and you leave somewhere you must hate.

I have also worked for Houchens and I have to agree that they are the worst company to ever work for. I know people who have had to fight for their retirement because Houchens would try to screw them over. Going to court and getting a lawyer.

I know several people who work for and have worked for Houchens and not one of them has ever had to fight for their retirement. They may not pay the most but they are fair. You work there, they pay you, you dont like it, then move on. Most people who think that they are unfair have been fired for being stupid and have an axe to grind. I don't think they make anyone work there.
