BUYERS BEWARE - Junk John Deere Lawn tractors at Lowes

Buyers Beware !!!! Some of the John Deere lawn tractors sold at the Lowes stores are NOT what you think they are. I moved to Tennessee 10 years back (June of 2002) with what was then a 20 year old little 10HP Simplicity with a gear box. It was wore out but lasted 5 more years before it finally died a slow death. In June of 2007, I purchased a 21 HP John Deere tractor with hydrostatic drive. I thought and was told I was buying a terrific machine that would last for many years if not be the last lawn tractor Iíd ever own. In fact I thought buying a 21HP unit was ridiculous overkill to mow the grass but surely it would outlast the little Simplicity I had and spread out over 20 years wasnít going to be all that bad. What a joke!

WITH ONLY 111 HOURS OF USE IN 4 YEARS the transmission is going bad and hereís the kicker.... the transmission in this tractor is a sealed unit made in Morristown, TN. by Tough Torque thatís non serviceable. The only thing you can do is replace these transmissions at a an authorized dealership *** TO THE TUNE OF $1,000. I called the John Deere factory to see if I could get any help in the matter and they kindly offered me $250.00 toward a thousand dollar repair. Note that I already knew the transmission was going out but in order to see if I could get factory assistance, I had to take my tractor to a dealer and the dealer charged me $100.00 for the confirming diagnosis. What a ridiculous way to treat a customer. I will never ever buy another John Deere product and plan to do my very best to warn as many people as I possibly can that these tractors are just expensive junk. Iíve spoken to the Cub Cadet people as well as the Simplicity folks about their new tractors and believe it or not they admit their tractors arenít worth a crap either until you get up into the 4 to 5 thousand dollar range. But at least they were honest about it upfront.

If youíd like more information or specifics, email [email protected] Iíll be only too glad to tell you all I can.

those tractors are knock offs, not real John Deere, not the same ones sold at dealers, they are made right beside the walmart riding mowers, painted green and stickers put on them, you are better off buying a good ole 318 john deere or a used cub cadet from someone and fix it, both are well worth the money...........first sign of a cheap mower is no bolt on wheels on the back

All I'm trying to do here is help people not make the same expensive mistake I did but I live right on top of the John Deere plant in Greeneville, TN. They do in fact assemble the tractors I'm talking about and the authorized John Deere dealers across the country do sell the same tractors with the same throw away transmissions. Lowes however is limited to the models they can sell and the 100 series models have junk transmissions. You might be warned by an authorized dealer about the lousy transmissions but at Lowes you likely won't.

The 100 series John Deere riding tractor has the lowest warranty return rate in the industry. Check Consumer reports. John Deere can't be doing all that bad with their quality.

PROTECTION PLAN IS A SCAM!!!! They will not honor their agreement. They will NOT provide service, but are more than happy to take your money when you make a major purchase. Lowes used to have the most reliable customer service department, but during one call about a year ago, a Lowe's corporate told me that they value the convenience of their independent contractors more than that of their customers. I was told that maintenance for would be covered under my protection plan until I called to schedule it. Then I was
