You really should give at least two weeks notice. This won't look good on their resume. Then they went out and bought a Cadillac.

After 34 years he should have retired although he would not need the extra money why not take what was promised you when you were hired. Lots of Ford employees in Norfolk,VA. did not get that oppertunity could have maybe taken that retirement and helped out some of those employees who have not found another job.

He is probably drunk in a mexican bar as we speak. And has already gone through half his fortune.

Perhaps his old boss will give him his job back?

There was a show on tv about people winning the lottery and how it ruined there lives. There were a few that it didnot because they pretty much kept the same lifestyle simply buying a home and not going crazy with the winnings.I would still take my chance though.:)I have read in about people that do not quit there jobs either,I do not remember their occupation but they must have really enjoyed it,personally I would travel and live in europe for a year.

As I have heard, he didn't merely quit, and walked away... He put in for his retirement with pension and full medical benefits, which really would be the smart thing to do.

You need to push away the negativity others put on you - often they're just jealous. Put your ideas on the table and don't be afraid to ask for help to accomplish your goals.
