Please read the statute. Direct threats that law covers but not people talking about rumors. You also have to prove damages not to mention identify yourself ask ask for a cease and desist before you can do any legal action. People talking about town rumors is not a crime just bad taste. So if you are being talked about you have to state who you are and ask them to stop. Do you really want people to know its about you? Ignore the trash and enjoy life

Rumor is not damage for one thing. And it's not contact unless their name is used and you know they are on here and that would have to be proven as well. Read what is required bt the law it is very specific and nothing has been done to break it. No lawyer would ever touch a case on here unless it was a direct death threat or other physical violence. Thinking rumor is damage just shows you know nothing of the law,

In this day and age stuff like this goes to court all the time and yes defamation of character resulting from rumors.. Because adultery is a law in this little state just like spitting on the side walk or wearing a hat in a theater that could obstruct the view of another paying customer old laws no one pays attention to. So spreading false rumors resulting in defamation of character is prosecutable in this po dunk little state. I assure you.. Harrasment that results in mental anguish is considered damages..

You do not have to identify yourself. Rumor of the magnitude that people post on this site can be considered Defamation of Character. Also, once the "poster" of the rumors has been brought up on charges, karma kicks poster in the teeth. Employers, school enrollment boards, family court judges, etc will have free and easy access to what you considered "payback" or "fun". This I know for a fact because I just saw it happen in charleston to a very close friend of mine. It is happening every day. Topix is cooperating with law enforcement because of the damage people's imagination or jealousy is causing others. Now, before you jump me or to conclusions, I in no way, know what or who this post was intended for. But, it pisses me off when conniving b!tches decide it's fun to start rumors whether it's on the bathroom wall or on this site. "Lol" if you are posting bogus rumors on here, I hope you know what you have gotten yourself into. My friend reported her problem to the state police and knew within 48 hours who was trash talking about her. She was not able to repair the damage done to her marriage, but she did get restitution from the civil suit she filed against the trash. Have fun "Lol" and make sure you start looking for a good attorney and come up with a good explanation for everyone who is going to find out what a trouble maker you are :(
