This is total bullshit. I am paying for my phone service so I should have a say in the matter. It's not right for the county to slap additional charges on an individuals personal service. I say if the county wants a worthless service such as 911, then let them figure out a way to pay for it. The 911 has always been a joke. It doesn't get emergency vehicles to a scene any faster or give you any better help. A phone with Caller I.D. is just as good when you have a dispatcher that knows how to use it.

We still have to give directions when we call 911, every time. I can do that by calling the ambulance company directly.

However, it does save time, that's been proven in urban areas and such.

I had to call 911 last year when my neighbors house was on fire. It took the 911 operator 7 minutes to finally get the address up on her computer, then called me back 3 times after getting the fire department to respond. From the time I called 911 to the time the fire department arrive, it took over 35 minutes and the house was only 5 miles from the local fire station. One of the firemen came directly to the house fire and stood around with us trying to talk to the 911 operator and give her directions but she insisted on sending the fire department over 6 miles out of the way to get to the fire. No time saved on this call and the house burned to the ground. You can bet within the next 2 years they will tap the cell phones for more money too because there are not as many home phones now. Screw the 911 system

You are absolutely correct. Just another tactic to swindle the people out of money for something they want that wasn't needed.

There are still plenty of us that have land line phones, especially the elderly who by the way are the very ones who can not afford to pay more for their home phone service.
Not everyone can afford the luxury of a cell phone, including myself.
This is just another way of ripping the citizens off.

Folks need to attend the county commissioners meeting and express their concerns. I agree the burden of this act will prey on the senior citizens and businesses. Our so called emergency management director is pushing most of these stupid ideas to benefit himself and has no clue as to what he's doing. I thought our sheriff was going to take care of this nut but it appears that he's taking control of the sheriff department dispatchers and 911 system. This guy is a waste of taxpayer money and not needed. Send him packing and use his salary to pay for the upgrades.
