Should the new dog pound be built on Eppler Ave where there are numerous homes and residences or should it be built in an area away from homes.

I drove by the location to see for myself, and it appears that the surrounding homes are far enough away that they shouldn't be affected by noise. Since there will be a new building instead of the eyesore that is there now, I don't see it affecting property values negatively.

My questions are:
Why is the city planning to put an animal shelter in a neighborhood?
Why did they purchase land when they already supposedly own land that would be more suitable for such a facility?
Why were those living in the area not given the opportunity to voice their opinions of the facility being built in their neighborhood?

Not much around it!!! I do believe there is a trailer park, housing addition and other homes in the area. I sure wouldn't want a dog, cat and horse shelter and an animal grave yard down the street from my home. If its built on Eppler those people will have to put up with strays that are dropped off after hours as well as all the noise from the animals. Do city voters get a chance to vote on this or is it a done deal?

Do you live there? Would you want a animal shelter near your home? Please ask yourself questions as if you lived in that area.

Thank you! It should be easy to pick a location at the industrial park or at least somewhere not zoned for residential.

Allegedly a city commissioner in favor of the shelter told a protester that no one is allowed to speak at the upcoming city meeting and that the shelter is a done deal and no one can prevent its construction.

As I remember, the property was formally used as an automotive repair facility (commercial not residential)170

I live near Eppler and I am not in favor of the shelter simply because of the location. I do agree the town is in need of a shelter but I don't think a neighborhood is the place for it.
I mean who wants an animal in their neighborhood? Yes the location was a former mechanic shop and yes it was an eye sore but it wasn't noisy. People living in that area deserve to be able to sit outside in their yards and enjoy themselves without having to hear a bunch of barking dogs and put up with all the strays that'll be roaming the area. I truly hope the mayor and city council rethink their decision, ask themselves if they would like the shelter in their back door and then move the site to another location.

Ro Poindexter should remember, she only got 54 votes in her initial election experience. There were 120 signatures on the petition to block the Eppler Rd. location for the dog pound. Do the math, she will only serve one term...

After a survey of the property and adjacent areas survey says the new shelter will undoubtedly increase property values.

If I was looking for a house or land to buy I really don't think an area with an animal shelter would be where I would make my home. Doesn't make sense to build a shelter in a neighborhood

That old junkyard and shop was someone's home and job. It may not have looked as good as the new animal shelter will BUT at least there wasn't strays roaming the area and dogs making noise all hours of the day and night

Well looks as if residents living near and /or on Eppler Ave better get ready, rumor has it the city council will break ground on the new animal facility next week. Once again the council does what they want without getting input or speaking with neighbors.
Dog pound vs New School

How can the city afford to build a dog pound, aren't they going broke because of misuse of funds?
Also I wouldn't it be wiser to build the kids a new swimming pool or better yet a new middle school before building dogs a chapel to pray.
Thing is the council will build the big fancy dog pound then they'll ask tax payers to increase taxes to pay for a new school or swimming pool.
Get your priorities straight!!!!
