<quoted text>if we followed your principles we would move no where, sounds like a good recipe for stalemate. All success comes from failure or trial and error. You must act, take some course of action. We can all get in a big room and argue wether this will succeed or fail, for everyone who sees success another person will see how it will fail ! This town has made no effort to expand and look at being proactive. So you that want to see failure in IVY please tell me what this city should do!!! Never do you act, you only sit back and criticize, never a course of action. Never get involved, never anything but negetive. The mayor and this administration is trying to move this city foward. Maybe it will fall short of their expectations, maybe it could be great of this community, one thing for sure, there is never going to be a sure thing, no way of knowing what the future will bring. I vote for the possibilities!
The possibilities should be a little more certain before taking big chances. What plan would I have you ask? I would bring in bigger business with alot more jobs attached with that company. When bringing in a business you create more jobs and your tax base also increases. IVY will do neither. IVY will cost the city several millions with zero return..

The other thing I would do is fix whats wrong with city already. Parks need attention, equipment needs updated for Fire and Police Department. Salaries need to go up for all employees but definitely the Police and Fire. Fix the streets that are in desperate need of attention, alleys that need re-done and done right. A new building will need built one day for your Police Department and building one big building and combining departments would make sense.

All these items cost money and a alot of it. Just think what a million and a half could have fixed that will be spent on IVY. I don't mind the idea of IVY but you do it after you take care of the problems that already exist. This administration can't make up their minds. One minute they want to go to once a week trash pick up because it will save money. Then they hire a Parks Superintendent and continue to pay a PR lady crazy money. Which is it? Do you want to save or spend? I believe they only want to spend on IVY and pay a PR lady so they look good in the paper. Looking good is trivial if your city looks like a dump and it does.

It is nice to hear solutions! I agree with a lot of your ideas. This forum will benefit all of us if we offer ideas and not just criticism.

Big business is trying very hard to manufacture with less employees and more technology. We need to recognize Big Business agenda and figure out how to fit in. This is education and precisely why we need IVY.

Then move the solutions to a new topic. This is about a grocery store and the tax abatement they wanted along with the money being given to Ivy Tech.

Your response, while off topic, is exactly the problem with the past and present administrations. Never finish what they started.

You want to move focus away from the subject that the 1st person-poster wrote.

Again, why don't you start a new thread and stop polluting this one with off topic responses.

So you say just do it and handle the consequences afterwards, that I beleive is the reason we are in the place we are. Getting in a agrument or I would rather say open discussions would allow all involved feel they are a part of the solution. Don't get me wrong there will be times you have to agree to disagree however I would hope all involved are grown up enough to always put the betterment of our city in front of their own goals and self motived issues and make the right decision for our city. And I don't beleive I said anything about wanting IVY Tech to fail but I don't beleive the taxpayers should be footing the whole cost. When you purchase a home the banks require some investment from you to show good faith that you have vested interest so as to not just pick up and leave it. The same should be with IVY Tech if they put nothing in it they have nothing to lose now do they. Has anyone investigated why IVY Tech pulled out of Boone Cty? Seems we would want to know that.

And you don't know me so how can you say I never do anything for our city. This is a free country and I have the right to my opinion the same as you do. However it seems on here if someone does not agree with this adminstraton and what they are doing we are haters and don't want good things to happen to our city that is just how closed minded you people truly are.

I vote for democracy and not dictorship decision making possilities. Open communcation, accountblity , transparency, and above all good leadership that truly listens to both sides of that coin.

The Mayor is quoted as saying FCL&P will provide a discount on its services.

This same "type of discount" was used when the original fiber was installed and the labor was never charged to the fiber project.

Funny how this "discount" is now ok with Ivy Tech, but the same people who complained prior are now championing the "discount".

Don't forget the loans that they floated the city when that lady comptroller kept screwing up the books.

Funnier that their response is accuate and truthful and yours is the typical blah blah blah that comes from people who don't have anything intelligent to offer.
