Fight Over Mukwonago Nickname Reaches Madison

The logo used by the school is an inaccurate stereotype. Wisconsin Indians did not wear the depicted type of headdress, in their varied traditional cultures, that appears in the logo. This type of headdress was worn by Plains Indians, primarily in the 19th century. Wisconsin Indians eventually doned this type of headdress, usually for tourist photos and tourist shows , only because the image of the Plains Indian, in full headdress, became the popular stereotyped image of the "Nobel Savage" or "Vanishing Red Man" in the mind of the majority white population. Would it have too much trouble for someone in the community to do a little historical research before defending the logo?
