I know where I live, my property taxes more than pay my fair share of community services. As such, I don't have to pay an additional income tax to my local government.
In our area, if you live outside of the city, but work in the city, you still pay a city income tax. This is over, above and separate from any property tax.

Now on the other hand, we have a home outside of the city and our summer taxes alone are in excess of $4000. We do not pay extra income taxes to our local unit of government either, but our quarterly contribution to the state and federal government is a royal pain in the

How much do you want to bet that "our fair share", gets wasted every bit as much as your "fair share" does?

I paid my Ionia City INCOME tax. One half of one percent. That's OK, I don't live there anymore. Also, I WILL NEVER BUY SO MUCH AS A POP WHEN GOING THRU THAT TOWN AGAIN! I will go to Grand Rapids first before I buy anything in Ionia. Have a nice life Ionia.
I just posted my remark in the Ionia Sentinel and they did NOT post it. They say they reserve the right to not post anything derogatory or offensive.

Was my quote either?

Nope your post was fine and correct . More people should stand up for their rights. Like what one of my friends said yesterday when he called the State Senators office tues because of the corruption in Ionia demanding something done . He told them that if just 1/2 the people were still here from the revolutionary war we would of had a revolution years ago because of the corruption . But the fact is everyone is so comfortable with all there little luxuries like their ipods or there cell phones they dont care about anyone else except themselve. People today are Just cowards when it comes in standing up for themselves or others. The few people who actually stand up for their rights are called names and the govt with their unlimited resorces come after them till they drive the people into bankruptcy or worse. When did we give the govt all the power they have ? arent they suppose to be there as our servants ? since when did we become their servants ?
You know you have problems with your govt when they are the largest employer.
More people need to be like you and stand up against them. keep up the good work.

Why don't your Republican friends at least put up someone as a candidate. Have not seen a contested race in years, only complaints about the people who do run for the council positions.

Yep, that's what we need. Arrest warrants for owed city taxes, probably under $100.00 ea. Overcrowd the jail and release all the meth heads so we can re-arrest them. Yep, keep that circle going to support your county jail, prosecutor, and lawyers. Smart move Ionia.
