Hi! My family might be moving to Lake Havasu city in a few months. We are a young family, my husband and I are in our late 20's and we have two young boys. My concern is that perhaps there are not a lot of young families in the area but mostly retired folks. Also I would appreciate some advice or input on raising a family in a place that is kinda labeled a "party city". Do you know people who are doing it just fine? Is the party scene unavoidable? I've never been there so any and all advice and input is much appreciated. Thanx so much! Oh also this is kinda funny but I'm super terrified of scorpions and spiders haha, anything to say on that?

I guess I should also ask about the heat. being from Canada and living in Buffalo for 4 years I haven't had much experience with that kind of temperature:) How hot does it get? and is it tolerable or are you cooped up in your house for 3 months? Sorry for all the questions:)

Come on now Greg, anything under 80 is cold weather to me. Why else would someone move out here.

Wow, you must be one hot blooded woman. Did you grow up in Phx.? or that kind of heat index?
I know what the cold is, it usually gets down to zero during the nite here, and 40s in the day time during the winter, 2 weeks cold, and not over 100 during the summer...usually

As a father(late 20's), moving from Flagstaff to Mohave County, Lake Havasu City would be the last place I would live and raise a child. I would try and avoid living as far away from Hwy95 and the London Bridge Area as possible. I'm there a few times a week for work, the tweens and teens there are simply outragious, the younger visitors usually from Califorina on the weekends are rude, agressive, and hostile. Despite the image you may see upon entering the city, there are alot of drugs and meth addicts there and homeless to boot. But don't get me wrong, if you can afford it you can avoid it. It has very swank areas.

As far as heat.... I think the high last year was 127. The heat kills pets, babys, and seniors. You literaly can fry an egg on the asphalt. Anything over 105 feels really hot. You will often have 2-300 utility bills from running your A/C 24/7 during summer. There is no leaving the windows open at night, invest in fans.

Amazing, my wife is from MI. and use to try and tell me how tuff she was, now she likes the normal weather, I dont think we had a day that got to a 100 last summer, and this summer over here compared to the others, June and part of July is the hottest part, the monsoons start and that keeps it cool. we never sleep with a cooler or AC on at nite, and use our cooler a little in the afternoon on the hot days, you would freeze over here. during the winter...

I carry a jacket with me all the time. In the winter to stay warm outside, and in the summer to stay warm inside. LOL, I think it is funny how in the winter people want there house 80 and in the summer they want it 60?? makes no sence to me.
Where in Mi. is your wife from, I grew up in Belleville down by Detroit. But my favorite place is the U.P. it is so Beautiful up there.

I was in Mi. about 14 yrs. ago for the 4th of July, standing on Lake Mi. up by Muskegon somewhere, wrapped in a quilt, watching the fireworks. it was sooo cold.
I love the summers in AZ. but I hate the winters.

Do you live in Flag? I did for 16yrs and it does get cold there, but it gets cold here where I live as well in NM. but I would rather put up with some cold insted of running a AC cooling system for months day and nite, I dont have to work out in the cold so its alot better here.

I bet the fire works were awsome back there my wife said they are the best back there. They dont have to worrie about fires like out west from the fire works starting a forest fires.

No, My Daughter lives up there, she likes cold and snow. I live in S.E. Az. I live in what we call a wind tunnel, if it was the beach I wouldn't mind the wind.
The Fireworks were nice in Mi. from what I remember.
Out here we have not had fire works for 2 yrs. because of wind. not sure what the plans are this yr.. One yr. we ended up going and then along came the biggest dust devel I had ever seen. with rain, I had mudd running down my windshield, it took me an hour to get home, a trip that normally takes 20 min.
Last yr. I stayed home and watched the Fireworks on my back porch, from a town 30 miles away. and that is my plan for this yr. to, except I think I'll get up on my roof and watch to get a better view. LOL

Not that far away from where I live, Im in western NM. LOL in a Flagstaff thread, I was born and raised there, I have no intentions of ever moving back, I dont like to shovel snow or mow grass like they do back in the midwest.
My friend says that he doesnt mind mowing grass, it gives him time to think, I said, I can sit on a stool and drink a cold beer and think, I say where there is lots of grass there are lots of humidity, misquitos, chiggers, ticks, not my idea of fun...lol

Well, I would not be here if it wasn't for my parents. I am hoping that all my kids move somewhere warm so when I retire I can go spend the Winter at there place, LOL
I do have to mow the weeds, but I can stop and take a swig of Jack to keep me going, and I really don't mind humidity, but I don't have chiggers and ticks here. right now it is so dry I kick up a mountain of dust just walking. The Monsoons should be starting soon,

Why did you move where your parents are at? My brothers take care of my Mom over in AZ. The cost of living was alot cheaper in NM. and I like the weather over here better than AZ. You wouldnt like it only 3 months out of the year aprox. that we have weather in the 80s during the day.
Where would you like your kids to move? for nice winter weather?
I got to drinking whisky with a mower the fence woudnt even be safe, LOL
I know about how dry it can get in the SouthWest, high desert, I see on TV that there is a good chance for rain this week, how nice, the forest is going to really get green.

I moved out here to help care for my elderly Parents, because I love them.
I hope one moves to Fl. and another here in AZ. I am hopeing the 3rd. will move to Hawaii LOL! I will be all set then.
I don't think I would trust wiskey and a mower together someone could get hurt.
As for the rain here we got a few sprinkles but they were dried up before they hit the ground.

We got lots of rain here yesterday and last nite, you should of as well living in the S.E.Az. lots of lightning too.
lol on the whisky and the mower, either way on getting hurt, hangover the next day for sure would hurt meeee.
I bet your partents are happy you are there for them. Amazing how my Mom was doing so good, fell and broke her him and that put her in an assisted living apartment, and she likes it, she doesnt have to worry about paying all the bills and such anymore. Me and my brothers all work 24/7 I think so it would be hard to slow down and dedicate one on one with Mom.

We didn't get any rain yesterday and today we got an eye dropper full. Oh well maybe the next cloud will give us more.
My folks are doing good right now, but I could never put either in an assited living place. I do what I can to help out. but if I need to I will move in and take care of them full time (thats just me)not everyone can.
but at the end of the day, I want a shot of Jack. without the hang over.

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Virgo

You're struggling to get everything finished in time today, making you feel fractious and tired. At some point you may have to take a pragmatic decision about which tasks must be completed today and which will have to be postponed until another day. Do your best to keep things in proportion otherwise you'll waste time in trivial details and needless nit-picking.
