School board candidates were asked to describe the primary function of the Board of Education. Each responsed as follows:
Daniel Woolsey-"We set the policy and oversee the academic programs."
Beverly Denton-"To assure that we have quality education for every child in our district."
Kevin Pruett-"To promote education for the kids and be sure the school is run properly and to keep all issues under control."

Correct answer-Daniel Woolsey's response. If you go to the Missouri State School Boards website, it states that school board members set policy, uphold the law, and promote labor relations.

funny, but seriously, vote for Bev Denton, she's more intelligent than anyone else running and would be a wonderful asset to the board (no I'm not a relative)!

Since we get to vote for 2, I am voting for Denton and Woolsey. Keven Pruett does not deserve to be in an authoritive position over our children. The man is not a role model. I don't know if anyone can remember one of the home football games last year when Monty Bush and Kevin Pruett had to be asked to move because both were being beligerant toward opposing fans.

I am voting for Daniel Woolsey because he DOES NOT have a bunch of high school jock children, so I really believe he will pursue EDUCATION, and that he will not attempt to intimidate those whose opinions differ from his. Beverly Denton is an intelligent person, and I would pick her second, however, I have seen her get pretty irrational at games, and if it becomes another one of those "my kid gets special privileges just because I am on the board", well, she just better watch it. I think I speak for several parents who say they are TIRED of bullies, on the board, on the field, and court-side. People were going nuts over the whole ripped pants policy, but that is what the board is there for, to create those policies that our kids are to follow. I just want their kids to follow the policies, too. Also, I am tired of non-athletes not getting a fair shake. Please, let's put our children's EDUCATION first.

I was there. I saw the true colors of this pillar of our community-aggression, out-of-control rage to show dominance, BULLYING. A few people laughed it off and said that they were just really passionate. Passion implies strong emotional attachment and commitment to an arduous task. That was not passion. It was an embarrassment. It was then that several of us parents realized, our kids aren't important to him. Winning a GAME was important, to the point he was willing to shame the members of his community who happened to be sitting there, hapless witnesses to such a regrettable incident. What if my nephews or cousins or children never make the football or girls' basketball team. Do they have less worth than the student who is no athlete? I just can't abide by that. I really hope this doesn't become one of those issues that people just push aside and pick based on who was popular in high school. I really hope we elect the officials who put our children, ALL of our children, first.

Darn it, I meant, "Do they have less worth than the student who is an athlete?" I was worked up and didn't catch that error. Plus, I wanted to add that I love sports. We go to all the games, my spouse and I played when we went to school here and we believe that team sports are important to boost a child's self-image and to build people skills. I just want the people who are in charge to see our athletic department in the same way, not as a 'win at any cost' type of program. The more I look into this, the more I find out, and the more disappointed I am with our elected leaders.

Sounds to me like you should hold a town meeting, WITHOUT the 3time candidates, then pick 2 write ins. Education should be the 1st priority. How many proffesional athletes have been produced in Shannon County? My nephew was in the top 99 High School baseball players when he was a junior. He threw an egg at a dumpster while a bum was rooting through it, he was charged with a hate crime, because the bum was Mexican, so no college wanted him after that. A sports career is NOT what a child should ever count on. Chances are they are going to be like most, and enter the working world. Education will best prepare them for that. School board members should ensure that your children are receiving everything they need to succeed. Most of the sports stars from my high school change the oil in my car now. They thought they were going to make the big time. I guess that's true if being a Speedy Lube manager was their dream.

I live in a town of 2500. Very small for around here. Our sports teams are hit and miss. Last year the girl's basketball team went to the state championship, and 2 years ago, the boy's football team went to state. The rest of the last 8 years were deplorable. They stunk up the field. But the debate team goes to state every year, and so does the band. Probably the smallest band in the country that gets invited to all the majors. Rose Bowl, Macy's, etc. Those rare winning seasons are appreciated, but their education is most important. Producing smart kids will only benefit the future of the town. Sounds to me like none of these 3 candidates are good for the future (the children) of the community.

Why did the Raperts leave

Because they treated all the students equally and did not realize that certain students do NOT have to abide by certain rules. Sad, these are awesome people who put our kids first.

We claim we need people who are willing to get in there and make a difference. We say we want everyone to be treated equally. We say we want education to come first. Then reality sets in. We get the guys who push to the front, demanding that things go their way. The other guys roll over and say, well, alright, you're big and loud and we'll just agree with you. People with a backbone get ridiculed when they question the norm. They get eye rolling, they get treated like they are making a mountain out of a mole hill, but really, those people are right. I hate for the Raperts to be set to leave. We have lost other good people back in the day. Looks like we are going back to all that crap. Thank goodness my kids are graduated, now my grandkids got to suffer with the bully on the board.

Our school can't afford girls soccer. They have to travel quite a distance for many of their games which costs our school district money we need for other things. Why then do we have this fairly new team? Check out how many of the school board members have daughters on this team and I think you will find the answer. We need to clean house when these other members come up for reelection. Too many conflicts with several of these members. Not doing what is best for the school, but what is best for their daughters. Conflict of interest at the very least. I do support Kevin and Bev in this election.

Kevin was the #1 bully in school back in the day so this doesn't surprise me at all, I have witnessed his son do the same thing repeatedly feel bad for those kids that have been bullied everyday from him it's just terrible, the school needs to focus on the important things winning doesn't come first!!!!
