Conservatives = stupid, and will never run a global corporation such as google. End of story. Don't even bother reading the rest of it, we Americans are dealing with one of the most ignorant mass movements in history.

Are these people nuts? If it weren't for the Sputnik launch, the U.S. of A. would never have gotten its posterior into gear and taken space seriously. And since when, pray tell, is stylization of a business' logo an indication of patriotism? The fact that Google allows people to seek out information, the availability of which the U.S. government often seeks to limit severely, is a daily exercise in democracy, and far much more so than anyone exercising a First Amendment right to voice their belief that anyone who does not agree with them 100% is not a patriot.

This is the dumbest, most asinine thing I've ever heard. As Dr. J said, if it weren't for Sputnik, it's not likely Neil Armstrong would have hopped around on the surface of the moon in 1969.

And the fact is, the Soviet Union no longer exists. It's not like Google was paying tribute to them with their logo - Sputnik was a huge deal in its own right. Ask any American who was old enough to realize what was happening at the time.

Seriously, conservatives like these need to find something else to do than finding everything wrong with everything everywhere. How do they have any time to enjoy their own lives when they're nitpicking and complaining about every little thing.

Get a life! Sputnik was a scientific achievement of humanity that spurred the US leadership to leap forward into serious space exploration. I do remember as a child wanting to be a scientist just because of space exploration.

I was under the impression that conservatives believed in property rights, and that a website is property that its owners can do whatever they want with. But apparently not. So should us liberals start to demand that WorldNetDaily run Glenn Greenwald columns?

This is the stupidest thing Republicans have whined about yet.(I don't hear them complaining about the bias at Fox News.) They also can't wrap their tiny minds around a corporation run such as Google - and how do they feel they have the right to complain about how individuals privately donate their money?! This is a new level of pathetic.

Google isn't just used in the US, so these conservatives need to stop being so selfish and all important. And that fact that the google employees donate to the democratic party...well they are allowed to do whatever the hell they want. Should we require that google hire a certain amount of conservatives every year to dontate to those parties? There is no valid argument in this article, just annoying little conservatives who have nothing better to bitch about.
This article is whack!

"It's a kick to your belly"?

An AD LOGO of an event that happened 50 years ago is a *kick to the belly?*

I think "conservatives" should stop looking for excuses to be offended. What a bunch of politically correct whiners.

Two words for modern conservatives:

GROW UP.

It's hard to be a conservative when people like this make ignorant comments like that.

Google is a private enterprise. They are free to celebrate the events of their choosing. Sputnik was a HUGE event and, as previously mentioned, was the best thing that ever happened for science education in the US.

Might I recommend the standard two step process for these so called conservative whiners?

1) deal with it.

2) get over it.

When patriotism is defined by symbolism rather than actual deeds, then these people might have something to talk about.

I'm a conservative and when I saw the logo I thought it was a nice thing. If it's so offensive to observe Sputnik's 50th annaversary, then why did the Chicago Planetarium have Kruche's son on hand to speak? I mean if we really want to split hairs why stop at Google. I also thought Russia was a quasi ally of ours now?

Seems to me Google was celebrating an important milestone in science, the development of which ended up benefitting worldwide technology. If you're going to be outraged by the fact that it was the Soviet Union's milestone, don't forget our side has satellites that can be used for espionage up there too. It's just a harmless picture, people, and the search engine is probably used worldwide, so why distinguish it as specifically American? These sound like the rumblings of an overly conservative audience.
