Billboard says cell phone law 'sucks'

Full story: Oroville Mercury-Register

"Senator Joe Simitian: Your cell phone law sucks." That's the blunt message on a large billboard off Highway 101 south of the IKEA store in East Palo Alto.

I think every state should have a cell phone law similar to CA's. I can't tell you how many times I have been cut off or darn near run off the road by an inconsiderate idiot on thier cell phone.

Paulson is an idiot. Why the hell can't he just pull off the road to make a phone call?

Cell phone distraction is a huge problem on our roads and I can only hope Paulson wakes up. He will cost lives if he is successful.

Perhaps he should take his $10K and invest in a high quality Bluetooth set up for his car's stereo system. Leave the rest of us alone.

Personal freedom - where does it end? I could argue it's my personal freedom to down a fifth of whiskey and slip behind the wheel.

finally a law against car cell calls. i heard of
a man not long ago. he ran off the road into the
water and several children drowned. just because
of a cell phone call. officers keep handing out
those tickets.

I think they should raise the cellphone fine because everybody ignores it. People on cellphones are dangerous. I commute 70 miles a day, and what you see going on is just plain crazy. Women seem to be the worst. I guess they're just in their own little worlds.

I have to agree with Oroville Resident. Women seem to be the worst offenders with cell phones and driving, and the younger they are the worse they are. I also have to agree with WOW. There are lots of things that can cause accidents. Maybe we should not allow more than one passenger, touching the radio for any reason, eating, drinking, arguing children, crying babies, DOGS IN PEOPLE'S LAPS - the list of distractions goes on. It all comes down to common courtesy, respect for your fellow man, and personal responsibility. Unfortunately, those who don't possess those traits are the reasons we have to have these laws in place.

What about the person messing with their music system, searching for a different cd? What about the guy messing with his police radar detector? What about the person engrossed in their car GPS system?

And aren't they are putting DVD consoles in car dashboards now?

Where do we draw the line?

Daily Horoscope for May 24

Aquarius

In complete contrast to yesterday, you have your head screwed on firmly today. Yet you won't be boringly sensible or drearily practical, so there's no danger of you having turned into a dry old stick overnight. It's a good day for keeping track of important details and processes, such as confirming a forthcoming appointment or filling in a form and then making a copy of it before sending it off.
