Suddenly, the moon looks exciting again. It has lots of water, scientists said Friday - a thrilling discovery that sent a ripple of hope for a future astronaut outpost in a place that has always seemed barren and inhospitable.

The space program is exciting. But as bad as things are economically, spending $100B on space exploration, is like the banks spending $200M on bonuses. There is a proper time for each of these events and right now is certainly not the right time for either.
