My family and I are moving to Mt.View this summer and are going to be building a home. After reading all the scary building posts, I thought I would get some of your opinions on a good builder. Or ask if there is even any?? We are not building a cabin, We are talking a nice brick home. My dad is also moving and building a home. I just want some opinions, so we dont make a very expensive mistake like some other people on here.

The Sloan Brothers are building the house 2 drives down from us. They're very honest, decent, hardworking men. The house isn't brick but I'm sure they could steer you in the right direction from that. A brick house is also going up down the road from us and they've done an excellent job. We've done our own building so I can't recommend anybody from personal experience but we do know the Sloans.

Jason Miller I think that is his name. He and is crew are mennonites. Who work like slaves and get the job done. Very nice people also. That work instead of talking and taking breaks all the time. I am not sure if they do it all or just framing, but there pretty good.

Delbert Wagler is who I'd recommend for your roofing also. He's Mennonite, very hard working, honest and on the fire department with my husband so we know him more than just business-wise. He finished our shop roof after hubby fell off and broke his leg last year and only charged us $100. If you want any rock work done, I recommend Lance Bonds. I do have to agree with tys about the Mennonites working like dogs. They take pride in what they do.

Hey I meant that they don't stand around all day and go to the lumber yard every hour. They are hard working people. Who do the job right. Has for rock work. Lance is good. So is Daniel Stephens. They do rock work mostly though no brick. Your brick man would be Tim Jenson he is a very good brick layer.

tys, I may be reading into your post wrong, but I wasn't disagreeing with you on the Mennonites. Hope you didn't think so. And if Tim did the house down the road from us, then he's very good. We go to church with Lance, but I've seen his work and would use him. Is Daniel Stephens there on 9/5/14 going to Mtn. Home? If so we've only done dirt business with them, no rock stuff. However, we felt very well treated and they're very nice there.

You may very well make a positive difference by informing people of trustworthy people in Mountain View, however, continue to watch your back, because there are those there who will not like it..........

Unfortunately, I am having to watch my back, but not because of shady business dealings. We live next door to a drug-fried moron.

However, as I've stated we've not had any business problems. So either we're doing business with the 'right' folks or we've caught everybody at good times. LOL

Proceed with Caution, and watch your back in the process.

Ask the state contractors board, licensing agency for a list of all builders with an address in stone county, arkansas. And if they do not have general liability and workmans comp they are really trying not to completely abide by the law.

Thanks for the help. As far as watching my back, thats the reason for moving to mountain view. We want to move to a small, safer community. And, if you are referring to watching my back in the building process, I agree. However I've been in the real estate business since I graduated high school (third generation) and kinda think I can handle it. There's crooks everywhere, I do have some friends up there that have recommeded some builders. I just wanted to see if anyone on here recommended them too!

Make sure you contract with ADT or Brinks Security. Alot of burglarizing goes on there in the safe town of Mountain View, Arkansas.

Naw, I install my own alarm systems. And I definatly don't want the alarm system to call the cops. If someone wants to break in, I got something for them. And I want to get finished before the cops get there!!

And whats up with people nocking Mt.View that don't even live there? This crap is getting ridiculous. Everyone that I talk to that lives there, including some friends up there, love it.

I think the problem is, that there is alot of people that can't stand that Mt.View is still a Racially biased and non-gay tolerating town(and one of the last in arkansas). And it is kinda stuck in the past. And that alot people who live there stand up for this!

I'm not saying i'm racist, just my opinion.

But I can say that I cant wait to step back in the past.

You may be onto something there JTown, and atleast you seem to be honest about your assessment of the MV way of life. Yes, I do believe if you are looking to step back in time, are a racist, a religious zealot, you may fit in there in MV to a distant extent. You are from OFF, and you will never totally fit in there. You will be an outcast behind the artificial and superficial welcome.
