I am suspect of a thread coming from a "moron." Nonetheless, I trust the fine citizens of Stone County will successfully thwart any attempts to burden our backs further with higher taxation.

Property taxes should be abolished entirely as their very existence assumes that the state owns your property and that you are merely "renting" it from them. How can you ever "own" anything if it can be taxed out from under you after paying the entire sales price plus interest? Of all the taxes in existence, this is by far the most regressive, counterproductive, and outright abusive. Do any of you bleeding heart statists have a clue what terror and fear must fill the hearts and minds of an elderly couple on a fixed income when someone mentions raising the property tax rates? No government on earth has the right to impose a yearly recurring and ever increasing tax on something you've already paid for. This is not just a property rights issue, it's a human rights issue.

Let it be said, I am not fond of property taxes and begrudgingly pay them each year. It is the personal property tax that I hold in highest disdain.
You evidently possess the idea that property is somehow unalienable in nature and that the concept of necessity is the sole basis for private property. That is one position to be assumed. On the other hand it can be said that we are but temporary stewards of land and never truly own mother nature.

As to the poor elderly perhaps you are not aware that when you reach a certain age you can lock in the assessed value of your property.
Taxation is a necessary evil. Without it we lose the necessary funding for infrastructure repairs, educational concerns, operating our prisons, on and on. If our county were to eliminate property taxes then the lost revenue would have to be generated elsewhere. Unless you like those potholes that tear your vehicles to pieces. I do agree that some taxes are egregious. Take for instance the necessity to obtain a hunting license to have the permission to pursue game on your own property. It's ludicrous. It's technically not a tax but if it walks like a duck.
Referring to the property taxation as a human right's violation is a stretch from my vantage point but that's your right to view it as such. It's a necessary financial evil and I understand the greater good it serves but it remains an unsavory part of American life. I am more concerned that what they take is not wisely and efficiently put to use. This is happening at all levels of government unfortunately.

It disgusts me to watch an intelligent human being, obviously capable of rational thought, roll over and lick the hand of his oppressor and justify his own abuse. What is the name of that syndrome? I'm sure you know.

Onia,

I think you might have a little too much disgust in your life. Lighten up and check out the new thread "The Church of the Latter-Day Dude." It might give you an opportunity to experience some real joy and happiness in life. Peace, dude.

Ok in plain English . The quorum court is thinking of increasing the milliage rate on property owners .all they have to do is pass it at a meeting by voting on it . Rumor has it that it will pass this week .
Better talk to ur Jp about this matter .
Or the county judge !
