So, let me get this straight. Some little girls are brown, but they are not allowed to be "Brownies"? Shouldn't the group change their name if they exclude minorities and non-Catholics? Why don't they just call themselves the KKKnights of KKKolumbus?

The girls scouts discriminate against those who are NOT Roman Catholic? Interesting how they said "Roman" Catholic. Who uses that term anymore?

'GSA' or 'BSA' is discriminatory in itself. Being politically correct, gotta' change ALL 'them there' uniform patches/building insignias/letter heads to "S of A", period! And while we're at it, lets remove those sissy sign on all restroom doors! I wanna' see some stuff! Uh, uh, can't wait to enlist in the USN, naturally, only if I am assigned to submarine duty. I love that rubbin' while passin' in tight corridors. "Reville, reville, drop your c ___ s and grab your socks". Which "WORD" will they use when this announcement comes over the boat? To be politically correct, the Boatswains Mate will have to use BOTH WORDS, as they do on other ships. Lovin' it! Anchors Aweigh! Silly politically correct stuff...

Let's ensure ALL groups with racial requirements and names disappear in a frenzy of political correctness ..... Like the Black Caucus in Congress, Miss Black America, Federal grants that are race specific, Affirmative Action quotas for employers ..... And on and on ..... Names that denote race such as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People ..... These have all outlived their purpose in a diverse society in 2011 USA. Right? Cesspool York historically had it's own ..... remember the annual "Miss Fine Brown Frame" contest? What local organization was responsible for it? It is not just GSA and BSA. Attention YDR, assign your best Cub Reporter to this and do an impartial expose.

To be fair, it appears that if any discrimination took place, it did not come from the top of the organization. If anything took place it was probably from the leaders in the district and not authorized by or even known to GSA.

I do not disagree with you, however, until racial profiling, and blatant racism is done with in America, such organizations are necessary. I come from York, and couldn't wait to get away from the outright discrimination displayes on a daily basis. In addition, my sister was the 2nd winner of the Miss Fine Brown Frame contest of which you spoke. It was sponsored by several local churches, a community center, and a few local businesses.

In those days inter-cultural events were necessary to teach other perspectives of beauty". My sister, the first in our family to attend and graduate from University was on the pageant route for scholarship money. I distinctly remember her chaperones telling her not to expect too much. Despite her beauty, intelligence, and talent, she was unlikely to win. The first Miss America wasn't crowned until 1984 amidst scandal of course, only to be replaced by the first ever black first runner up. Just this year, an American-born Indian was crowned and the country went nuts! I would love to see people live together in peace and understanding, but until unbridled hatred for what is not to one's definition of acceptable/beautiful/american/ politically correct, is such a dissolving of these entities wise?

I currently live in Europe and a friend of mine sent me a link to a show in the States called "What Would You Do" where it showed a Caucasian boy of 17 or so trying to cut a chain off a bike with bolt cutters. People actually tried to help the guy. The they used a Negro in the same clothing and people all but attacked him, and called the police. This behavior, captured on video sums up much of the treatment I have personally suffered as well. Upon voicing my feelings about it, the majority (Caucasian) of those to which I speak say I am over-reacting or hyper-sensitive. My point is best illustrated by the old addage, "Until you walk a mile in my shoes... "
