Mtn. Home swimming pool

What's the deal with the yucky pool in Mtn. Home? It seems to be crowded with tons of people all the time, but clearly isn't very well maintained. The bathroom reeks of urine at all hours of the day, the pool is cloudy and too hot to use by the first of July, and the staff (for the most part) seems a bit put out when asked for help. Isn't Mtn. Home a big enough town to support a decent swimming facility or at least maintain the one they have? Every summer I'm disgusted.

For a town this size, I think Mtn. Home has very nice park facilities in general. In 1984 I contracted with the city to repair the old city pool that was located at Hickory Park. It was in rough shape, the clorination equip was obsolete and a very dangerous design. The city gave up the following year and had it demolished and filled in. Munincipal pools are seldom cost effective. They tend to be a money pit and I'm not one in favor of a city going in very deep to compete in the recreation business. Not wanting to contradict myself, because I do think our facilities do rival most cities our size in our parks. The liability, maint., staffing issues make a munincipal pool a tough sell to was very hard for the Racquet Club to recover from the accident at their pool. Many don't remember, that tragic event about ruined them, a city owned liability surely would of made it even worse.

You live in Mt. Home and can't find a place to swim? Are you blind?

Not blind, Look, but thanks for the question. I spend many days in the lakes and rivers. I also enjoy swimming laps for exercise, and I like for my children to be able to participate in competitive swimming. I am appalled by the fact that no one seems to put any emphasis on having even a decent facility. Our pool is dirty, the bathrooms are smelly, and I don't see any reason for the lack of maintenance. Something is wrong when your city pool is unusable in July due to hot, cloudy water.
