Are there any home brewers in Mountain Home? Does anyone that currently live in mountain home have any feelings (good or bad) about how a little microbrewery restaurant in mountain home would do? Any thoughts on this would be great! I'd love to open a little microbrewery in mountain home later this year when I get out of the military!

Prolly do good with decent menu and location. Finding a good way for patrons to drink a couple of pints and not run the gauntlet of dwi checks can be a boon to success also.

I think it would do really well with a good menu and atmosphere. I'm a little old for the loud and frantic atmosphere at Arena, but young enough to like more of a pub atmosphere. We don't have that.

DO IT! That would be awesome. If Mountain Home is to grow, we need progressive thinking people like you. Some folks were thinking of doing something like this in Bull Shoals.

constructive information would be appreciated more than just negativity. Why is it that I wouldn't make it? I know opening your own business is risky, especially in a smaller town. At the same time, most of MH's economy is based in the service industry, a microbrewery or pub is something that is missing in MH. I'm definitely not saying I would make it, however could you shine some light about specifically why I wouldn't make it?

The population of the area would not support it. Pricing of beer in a micro brewery is high. You would do much better in a larger college based town. The bars and restaurants in this area are struggling.

I have to disagree about the pricing, Microbrews are usually substantially cheaper than other beers, there are no distributor prices. Making my own beer would allow me to serve specialty beers at prices near or less than your typical bud light miller light brands. Unfortunately I am a realist and know I would have to keep popular options on tap just to get people in the door. I do see the population as being a concern due to the average age and other factors, I would think that with the addition of ASU-MH, there would be a growing demand for a bar or pub in that area that isn't a standard country bar or just a restaurant with the same beers on tap. As with any business, I'm sure it would be a huge risk. Does MH have any sports bars?

Hi, Yes, there is a sports bar in Georgetown Sq.(near Comfort inn), but i don't think they are a large draw here. Small batch brewing, or a change (flavor of the month) of variety would attract at least me. One of the turn-off's to me is that most watering holes here cater to a niche base of customers. The Brickyard, Royal 66, Old Chi etc. seem to each settle in with their own regulars and it narrows potential patrons that might expand a business. I'm too old to put up with head bang, to young for Mitch Miller and not into all country all the time. The restaurants that have a full service bar don't seem to make good use of them either. Way back when, in the "private club" days, we had the Farm, the Red Fox, of course the VFW and later the Norfork Inn. The Back 40 and the Hog Trough were the beer only establishments...

I agree! Do it! I love light and dark beer..it would be great to have several different options rather than just the middle of the road Buds and Millers and a atmosphere different than a bar would be great! Hopefully serving food..Good luck

I like this idea, it would be good to start little and get a good cook/chef to prepare meals and someone who knows and cares about their customer service, so many places are not good at providing either. my wife has some knowledge of home brewing and I am in the food service industry, it's would be tough but stay strong in those areas and You will do fine.

Bull Shoals? naw, I can't see the people of B.S. going for that, won't get past the city or it's residents, nice idea though.
