What does anyone know about the cave. I have been in the entry of one by the sewer plant. There is also a entry on Star Hill. Is there somewhere else to get a view of this cave(s)?

There's actually a lot of caves around the area. I know of another opening that is waaayyy down Wall St. but its on private property and access to it is not permitted. I live quite a ways south of town and my house is actually sitting on a rather big cave, there is an opening in the field across my house and another opening behind my house on my neighbors land way down in a valley, its about a half a mile from opening to opening. But again, access is not permitted. :)

That is the CAVE I WAS TALKING ABOUT,happy you confirmed it for me!!!!We lived out that way YEARS AGO and us kids would go to it,the opening we would have to crawl threw and you would come to a BIG open room, which was PRETTY,never went any further cause we were afraid!!And their must of been a spring cause their was a small stream of water running out of it at all times. We knew it as TALOW CAVE don't know if that's the right name or not.Do you remember the 2 graves that was close to a fence line?WE WERE ALWAYS TOLD the people had been in a wagon train and had died their,it my memory serves me right, the small tumbstone had the year,in the late 1800's.Now i'm going to tell my real age HA!!,cause i haven't been back their for 50 years plus. Now maybe you non believes will relize that their are caves ALL AROUND MTN.GROVE AND THE WHOLE TOWN MIGHT BE SITTING ON TOP OF ONE!!!!!

If the one on the square is a storm sewer,I SURE WOULDN'T GO IN IT DURING A STORM AND IT SURE AS HECK DIDN'T SMELL LIKE"LAKE LOT OF TOOKIE!!I haven't been in the back of that store in about 40 years and more than likley is this been boarded up by now.BUT I DID SEE IT WITH MY OWN 2 EYES LIKE I SAID BEFORE!!But no one believed their was one on Wall ST.either!!As a kid you could sit around the square and listen to the ole folk talk about all the caves, weather and everything else.As they always told me "THE OLDER THE WISER" and i'll be damned they were right!!

I have never been to this cave in particular. It is actually on my aunt and uncle's land and my dad told me about it but I never have went there unfortunately. But you are correct there are numerous caves around this area and in fact part of Mountain Grove is sitting on a massive cave. I have heard people around here call them "sinkholes" more than I have heard them called caves. I guess the reasoning for this is a majority of them are just individual holes that may or may not connect to another. I'm not really sure, thats just my guess. But yes you are correct about the caves and I hope that people don't think you are crazy because I sure know that you are telling the truth.:)

the cave opening by the water treatment plant goes under mtn grove and splits around the square. one way comes out on zz hwy and the other comes out at dunn. i was told that when richard bro's burned a few years back, that part of the store fell into the cave, so there might not be an access all the way through now. back in the 70's several people went through the cave.

Actually the caves go further than you might think. Yes one end is along the four lane hwy by the treatment plant, but the other end doesn't stop at Dunn or Star Hill. The largest "other" end to the Mtn Grove cave system is just south of Cabool, it's called Onyx Cave. It's located on Onyx Cave Rd in between AD and EE, Nick Matherly owns the land. Residents in the area used to have large community dances and parties in the entrance years ago. The local old timers tell stories of pouring paint on a pig and boarding up the caves entrance with the pig inside...weeks later the pig made its way thru the caves and was found inside Mtn Grove!!!
Mr Matherly lets the schools take the students into the cave every year.

I could tell you where it is on SOUTH WALL,but as caveman say's it is on private propety and i RESEPCT HIM AND HIS FAMILY MEMBERS(i don't even know them)so i'm SORRY I CAN'T HELP YOU OUT,you might respond to his comments he has written!!you can see the opening of the other one, if you go down the outter road by HILLCREAST CEMENTARY,going east it's on the left,it's really grown up and hard to see unless you know about where it's at.GOOD LUCK cause the caves are very interesting.

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Pisces

It's a big change today after yesterday's combustible atmosphere and you're feeling more relaxed and understanding. You're even prepared to forgive someone for what you thought yesterday was a heinous crime, and ready to give them a second chance. However, let's hope that this person deserves your goodwill and is grateful to receive it.
