How much drug use goes on in the mtn grove area, I am thinking of moving my family there from springfield because of the high crime rate here, ive heard mtn grove is a town where there is hardly any drugs and the crime rate is really low, is this true or not?

On a per capita basis, drug use in the Mtn Grove is five times higher then in many large cities. Meth and prescription drugs are the main problem, along with the synthetics, ie bath salts, k3 ect. ALL of the small towns in the Ozarks are infested with drug use. The local press likes to keep it secret. Special intrest groups, like real estate agencies, who buy alot of adds, want outsiders to have a Mayberry image of this area. If you move here, you are far more likely to be the victim of theft or burglary and your kids will be far more likely to get involved in drugs. Many transplants who have moved here from places like LA, Chicago or Detroit to get away from crime will tell you they never were actually the victim of crime until they moved here. I am a transplant who is also in law enforcement, with over 1100 square miles of jurisdiction; I came from America's most violent crime ridden city but the drug problem is worse here. The druggies here are not as violent or as sophisticated and ruthless as those in large cities. Most of the local drug pushers are also users and big loosers. Most are on some sort of government welfare, so they sell a little dope and steal a little to survive between checks. You will be shocked at the percentage of the population here that are on disability, welfare, food stamps and other government handouts. Most of this is fraudulent, but culturally there is almost no work ethic here. If you move here, find a good church family, home school your kids, learn to protect yourself and your property and don't be fooled by the rural atmosphere.

They are not very accepting of out of towners and the drug problem is worse than people know. Not enough productive things to keep kids busy unless you are a diligent parent. Which, I guess we all should be anyway.

Mtn. Grove is a nice town to live in &the it's just like any other place,if you want drugs or anything else & look hard enough, you will find it! There are a lot of good people here so dont let a few bad ones make up your mind for you! I suggest coming down &the spend a weekend &the see for yourself

Mtn. Grove is a bad place to live. Don't move here. Anywhere is better than here. Drugs are bad. Lots of meth. Schools are bad. Kids don't learn anything. They come home tellin me bout how teachers turn movies on while they are texting or shopping on the internet. Teachers out in the hall talkin to each other when there supposed to teaching. Bad place.

Moved the family there thinking it would be a better quality of life for them.
How wrong we were. They are not tolerant to outsiders, very unfriendly.
Hands down the worst place we ever lived. Schools are a joke and drugs are everywhere. Not to mention the sexual deviants that live there too.
Only stayed for 2 Months and 10 months later we are still waiting for our house to sell.

I hate it here i grew up here and its nothing like it was 15 years ago. Everywhere there is drugs I've lost alot of family because of it most of them in jail or dead. I Lost my husband because he couldn't leave meth alone. I Have never and will never do drugs I wish the cops would do something about it. like nail the main dealers everyone know who they are. I would not recommend mountain grove cabool.norwood mansfield.seymore willow.springs houston to anyone. The people here are killing themselves and thier families and don't even care. They cops won't do thier jobs and bust these nut cases instead its viscious circle that never stops. Ban sudefed and everything else they use to make the crap. It wont hurt my feelings any I would rather have a cold then see all these zombies running around our town spreading disease and having kids they dont take care of. Maybe someone.should write the.presdident a letter a day until they do something.

Great place to retire.

Difficult to make a living here if you're not working for the gov't -- School, Social Services, Medical field (gov't give Drs a tuition 'break' or pay them to live in rural areas).
You could be a farmer, and get lots of subsidies.

MG is what you make of it. If you are an addict, you'll find dope in every city in America. People that can't make it here can't make it anywhere. Crime is lower here than in Ca, or most any other big city/state. You really think MG is bad?? Try walking down the streets of east LA were only criminals are allowed the use of guns. It seems people who hate mountain grove have never left mountain grove.

You claim the police aren't doing their jobs...what people don't realize is it's not as easy as Law and Order or CSI or whatever show you watch portrays it to be. They can't just go beat down on random doors on hearsay. They have to have hard evidence to even go after anyone. I would love the people who claim the police don't do their jobs attempt one week in their shoes and then try to say they don't do anything. What's funny is the same people who say these things and worse behind their backs are the same ones who don't think twice on calling them to help with a domestic situation or with a burglary. You don't know half of what these officers go through everyday they put their uniforms on. So quit pretending you do.

Drugs are in any town. Govt assistance is not as easy as people say it is to get in MO. MG is a good town for the most part. The druggies are easily identifiable and don't really bother anyone except other druggies. Life is what you make it, and home is where the heart is. The worst part about MG is the ignorant gossipy assholes. And some people who've lived here all their lives have some weird sense of entitlement over those who haven't. Can you spell deliverance?
