Having a scanner I contantly hear at night car #18 stopping vehicles for "failure to maintain lane". The traffic stop ends with him giving a warning. I believe him and another night cop are profiling. STOPPING VEHICLES FOR NO REASON!
Someone should request a report on just how many vehicles are stopped each night, for what reason, and by whom. Compare those stops with the day shift stops. You'd be suprized!
There are very few streets that even have a center line here. That combined with the pot holes, go figure!
QUIT stopping citizens and visitors for no reason!

Funny you brought that up,I had a a mg officer stop me sometime back for that VERY reason and I know for a fact I hadn't swerved or hit the center line. He was really nice, run my license, and that was it. Never eve asked for insurance or registration. Just thought it was kinda odd as much as mgpd is on towing a vehicle for no insurance he didn't ask for it. I don't doubt at all what your insinuating.

If you aren't braking any laws why worry about it? I for one feel better knowing that they are patrolling and doing what they are paid for and took an oath to do then sitting on their butts waiting for crimes to come to them.
so what

Think of it this way. At least they are patrolling. At night less people are out so the % of it being drunks or thief's, and drugys are higher. So when they find the are just normal good citizens they let them go. I for one was pulled over and he was professional and respectful. So I for one am ok with them doing it. If thief's get word of them actually patrolling do you think they are going to try and steal as much? Maybe you should just stop listing to a scanner. Oh wait soon you won't be able to when they switch over to the new frequency and scanners will be no more.

I'll be damned if I am going to be a happy AMERICAN CITIZEN and get pulled over when NOT breaking the law - or for a bogus not "maintaining my lane" or not enough illumination on my license plate. Next thing they'll be wanting to knock on your door and "just take a look around". Screw that. I've got nothing to hide, but I have a constitutional right to my privacy. I have a right to NOT be harrassed (and that's what it is) by the law, or anyone. If the city cops can't generate enough revenue in a normal course of above the line law enforcement, maybe they need to cut the force. No one should roll over for anyone when it comes to your rights as an American - our rights are what separates us from the rest, it's what our soldiers fight and die for. So you think the cops are going to clean things up and protect you from the "bad guy"? Who is going to protect you from the police? They shouldn't act like snakes in the grass.

So car 18 is not setting at McDonalds or at the PD and you are bitching! The reason there is nothing going on during the day is because, those fat lazy cops don't do nothing but go out and eat, sit at the PD or find someones house to sit at! Dan Parker needs to be relaced!
Use to you KNEW if you broke the law the cops would be there! Now you can break it all you want, cause you know most the officers will be! Sitting on their ass avoiding work!

I thought this was still america or whats left of it. Being pulled over for no reason other than being nosy is in itself against the law. So you attach a false reason and give out a warning. Does that justify profiling or creating a police state. Who will Police the police?

I can almost guarantee its a new officer doing these stops.I have had these newbies pulling me over for many years on similar pretenses.I had one follow me around town for days until I finally stopped and asked him if there was something he wanted to talk to me about. His reaction was priceless!! LOL

It can be a little irritating but the newbies are just trying to figure out who is who in our town.
Not much a person can do with these judgement type of pullovers but grin and bear it.

Just curious, how are they generating revenue if they are just giving warnings to people who are innocent? They don't make any more for just running checks. They are not hurting anything. In fact cause of those random checks the have arrested a few with warrants and got DWI's, and found meth on people. Hmmmm sounds like to me doing their jobs.

Those random acts are against the law. I'm all for putting away bad guys but not at the expense of others.

It's kinda hard to catch the bad ones when your busy harassing the good one's! I can't believe some people think it's there job to harass people. I don't drive around at night myself but if people are obeying laws they should be able to without being pulled over. Everyone seems to have camera phones, video his ass and report it!

So who is car 18? I know we had or have a couple or few that are leaving, is it one of them or someone new that just started?

You are kind of right...I shouldn't have said revenue. But in order to get funding and grants they have to show that they are "working" and that each and every officer is needed....you know...pulled over 15 cars in one shift [for not maintaining the lane-laugh], things like that.

Doing their jobs would be investigating, like a real department, but you know what? That takes brains and talent, and a good relationship with the community and respecting our rights, not harassing the us (I have not been pulled over yet for not maintaining a lane, or anything in years - but this police conduct worries me).

Good may come from these bogus stops, but if you're okay with your rights being stomped on in this manner, then you're okay with your right to bear arms being stomped on. Your also okay with your right to speak freely (or to remain silent) to be stomped on. Your okay with your right to vote to be stomped on. Your okay with your freedom of religion (or no religion) to be stomped on. It's all or none, not pick and choose. The cops need to play by the rules, not look for every easy way to get away with breaking them.

If they pull you over, use your camera phone. It works wonders. Make sure you tell them politely that you are videotaping them. It is within your right as an American.

once again it is amazing to me how afraid you people who have an opinion are. speak up for yourself and be proud you have that freedom, put your name on it then..........are you afraid it will bring you unwanted fame, or afraid that someone will retaliate against you..........its your right don't be afraid.

So, if a person is not doing anything wrong they should still be fine with being harassed?
