I live out of Johnson County but just heard that Bill Roark's auction barn burned down today. Is this true? What happened? I have been to auctions there and know both Bill and Beth Roark.

yeah the the entire place went to the ground, the stalls that were for the animal auction, some of them are still standing. umm my boyfriend went on the fire call, they said that it was so hot that they really couldnt get the pumper trucks close enough. the fire trucks stayed against the fence at the little white house between the sale building and they highway. bill had the place full of antiques for the sale that was going to be the next night, and none of it could be saved. but it gets worse, bill had made the decision that he wanted to save money, so he had never purchased any insurance. so there wasnt anything that would help him with the lost. the fire marshall is going to do an investigation about what started the fire, but i dont know if they will figure it out. all i can say if they figure out that the fire was started intentionally, then bill pissed one to many people off. people that werent at the sale all of the time didnt realize to what extent that man would go to to save money, and he was hateful to quite a few people there, including my boyfriend.

Yes, I, too had heard that Bill had no insurance and know that Bill could certainly make people mad, but he did have some decent people working for him. I don't think he paid them much at all. Is he planning to rebuild?

Mr. Roark probably couldn't afford to pay the rates they would ask on his stock (it would vary) but he probably had insurance on the property itself. He'll be alright.

FYI, the fire was electrical, and you have no idea how much it would cost to insure something like that, dont you recall the other auction house that burned down didnt have insurance either, perhaps it is just too expensive? Alot of people dont know, but mr roark pays his x father in laws bills, and his mothers bills including taxes out of his pocket. He also had fund raisers to help people in need out of his pocket.......Why do people get so nasty to someone when they are down? This is supposed to be a friendly county, I think we all need to come together and do something for him and his family also, he has done alot for johnson county. I am going to miss going there and I am sure his workers are also. But how do you think he is feeling now, that was his life and his income, some of you should be ashamed right now saying the things you are.......

Bill helped us anti-CAFO people out with a benefit auction years ago. He stood up to Wiley Roark when he was threatened for helping the 'environmentalists.'

Bill, I wish you well and your business a speedy recovery.

Omg,,,I want every one to know that we had stuff in there for the auction that was on friday, my husband works for Bill on the weekends to help Bill out, we lost everythng in the fire, but Bill and his family lost alot more. Bill is rebuilding, and i am so happy, he provides lot to this community as far as a place to go , to dancing and dinners. He is a hard working man, he is very giving with a nice heart, and has a wonderful girlfriend that stands by him. Bill is stresses out alot, he has so much to do. He is a stand up guy in my books. Insurance is a issue, but when you have a Auction, and the with insurance it is hard to coverage for a business like that, just like someone mentioned about the one in Doe. But Bill will have a Auction this Saturday Night at the Trade old School outside, If you can come and support him.

I was surprised to hear about Bill and Beth. Have they been divorced for awhile? I know that they were married for years and seemed to be perfect for each other.

Bill and Beth perfect for each other??? Not hardly. Bill and Beth have been divorced for about 5 years now. There was a short time there that they got back together but that's been quite some time back too. I hate this about the auction barn but am sure that he will come through it and prosper again.

Just wanted people to know there is going to be a chicken barbecue fund raiser the 16th of august,
dinner will include chicken, baked beans, slaw, roll desert and drink for $8.00. There is also going to be an auction held before the dinner and a band playing also. Please tell all your friends about this fund raiser and help rebuild Roan Valley Auction. For more info go to this website
www.auctionzip.com
and type in his ID number 9694 and it will give details or call his place of work. This is going to be held at the trade school grounds in trade, they have been generous enough to let him use their property till he can get back on his feet, please all come out and support the rebuilding of Roan Valley Auction.
Thanks for your help

The Auction barn burnt because of the stupidity of the fire department that was in charge
