I think people who smoke should be either denied medical care or charged extra when being treated for smoking related disease. It's self inflicted and totally preventable. Unless you live on another planet or under a rock, there is no way a person could not know how bad smoking is for their health. These people inflict harm on themseves then take up valuable medical resoures for treatment. When they get out of the hopital most go right back to smoking. Give em a pain pill and send them home!

"I think", or rather, "I know", tobacco was grown here, and a very great source of income for many years! In these trying times, people, such as yourself, bit^ch about anything, everything, that means absolutely NOTHING! While YOU "over eat, over drink, go out into society with that snotty, rotten nose, coughing, running a temp, giving everyone around you the crud", I'm staying home and SMOKING A BIT OF TOBACCO. Have you ever seen "a human liver that is completely rotted from DRINKING ALCOHOL? Well, I have, and have also lost family to DRUNK DRIVERS, drunk on "prescription drugs", and alcohol, who I might add, abuse spouses, abuse children, abuse co-workers at the workplace, abuse laws of the land, and the same thing goes for "gambling". Families are doing without med attention, food, a home, living in vehicles, because of gambling alone, not to mention those "good old booze", and those "good old dopey pills" and injections, that so many love to receive at that "good old ER"! You're plain old stupid, and need to get SOBER!

So,if we agree to this smoking penalty, you will concede that we also need to levy penalties against those the Old Guy describes: obesity related problems (extra pounds warrant the penalty) and positive blood alcohol showing up on tests on the day of the physical or doctor visit. Also we could require those written personality and attitude assessment tests that employers sometimes use. Then the medical establishment can slap us upside the head with penalties if the test shows we have unhealthy thinking.
That will teach us just to stay away from the doctor, smoke, overeat, drink, and have negative, unhealthy thoughts.
Hey, are you a Republican or a Libertarian?
Personally, I agree with all these to some extent, and I am all for having drug-sniffing dogs out in the doctor's parking lot trained to take out the seat of the pants of the offender.(Marijuana excluded, Duke can give that offender a big, slobbery kiss for all I care.)

The Old Guy from Shady Valley has done it again. Got my eyes big and round when it's really time to wind down and sleep.
He has given me an uncharitable thought. We could penalize those druggies right out of our medical care system and just let them destroy themselves at home, quietly and cheaply. Or are they already doing that? No, one near me goes to the doctor often and already has had free dental service and dentures made to replace the teeth he lost.
On second thought, could I rewrite my post #4 and replace Duke in the parking lot with some mean pit bulls to greet the druggies and take more than the seat of the pants?

I am not interested in what you have to sayso I didn't read it all. Are you one of those guys who rides his scooter around with an oxygen bottle and tube up your nose? Who paid for those?

Oh, you had best be very careful of those trite, snooty remarks, concerning "oxygen". Here in these mountains we do see those that literally keep the oxygen on hand, everywhere they go and, you're not exempt from this horror, "old dude"!

Did you ever stop and think that some smokers, like myself, work about 70 hours a week and have health insurance? Probably not! So don't think for a second that every smoker is beholding to you!

That may be true other causes but not from smoking. I have never smoked a cigarette in my life. It used to make me sad to see these people you describe, then one day I had an epiphany - "they did it to themselves, knowingly". I now understand you can't save people from themselves.

I do think that. I also think you should pay a lot more for your insurance than people who do not smoke. If you stopped smoking you could cut back to 40-50 hrs a week. What is it ?$4 per pack? 2-3 packs a day? And to boot your clothes wouldn't stink and your car would smell better.

You're one grumpy, silly old man, that gets a "high" from trying to be the perfect "Shady Valley" res? No, there are some Shady folks that are by far grumpier and, snottier than the likes of you! When in high school, I shunned those Shady dudes, and dudettes, who smoked, drank, cursed, made fun of poor kids. Oh my gosh! You're one of those, spooky, too unreal,
gives me the heebee jeebies!

Never intended to drudge up old scary memories for you. What are heebee jeebies anyway? Sounds like some kind of bed bug. However I will say yes I am silly. No I'm not really that old. George Burns -now he was old. When I was younger I did not smoke, drink or curse. I started that later, at least the drinking and cursing part. I like old scotch and courvoisier. You must be a smoker to be so upset. Oh yeah - no I am not perfect. I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken. Wish that had not happened and ruined my perfect record.

Hey old guy, You are a little late on this idea. Some insurance companies have already established that for smokers, insurance will either be denied or have higher premiums. Which I agree is necessary, if smokers make the choice to damage their bodies by smoking then they should have to pay for their inevitable medical consequences.

There are other carcigins that cause the cancer cells. What about people who burn tobbacco sticks and plastic jugs? What about desil fumes from the tractor or that big truck? What about all that meat and chemically treated vegetables we eat? Let's castrate the people who have sex b/c that is a way that the HIV is started.Let's fire the sheriff b/c he won't do anything about ALL the meth here and I know it exists' and when they blow up the air is contaminted. The man taget practiceing should pay more because of the noise and the release of gun-powder.The kid bully at school should be hanged b/c this causes mental problems for the other person.. etc...
I don't smoke.I have lost friends to Cancer who have and some who have not smoked. We can't make the people who smoke pay more when there are so many other causes to health problems.

Yes, we've all been touched with horrible cancer. And, we'll all be subjected to those that play the blame game. But, if you'll notice, the smokers, drinkers, dopers, over eaters, thieves, adulterers, LIVE TO BE O-L-D, the majority of the time....

Stress and the related effects of it, is the biggest Killer of all! So, what is the Poster who started this Thread, proposing to do about that, to stop the draining of "Valuable Resources"?
If ignorance were a Killer, he/she would already be gone and couldn't have started such a Ridiculous Thread!...SMH...and rolling my eyes...at the greed and stupidity of some People...and their lack of compassion and caring!
If I could get to them, I'd blow smoke right in their face!
