This reminds me of the Jeff Foxworthy joke about a rednecks last words. "Hey ya'll, watch this".

I think it looks like fun, too. I can't help but think those boys had done some research on elevation/depth at that point on the bridge.
Did I see one of the boys go into the water at a slightly backward angle? That did make me a little anxious.

I wondered how mama felt, and dad, when they saw that. The feelings have to be mixed. Thank goodness that most poorer decisions were not videotaped.(We have replay in our minds, right?)

I found a website that claims the bridge is 80 feet from the water. I assume that is when the lake is full. As you could see the level was pretty low making it a higher drop. People have been known to jump in there to commit sucide. If the boys had hit flat instead of straight in the outcome could have been different.

I just watched the video again and noticed at 40 seconds the kid in the red shirt says " its probably deeper in the middle". That means they jumped and didn't know what depth they jumped into. Absolute stupidity!

Did you happen to be one of the jumpers? My life is plenty exciting. I doubt many could keep up with me. As for a closed mind I like to have fun but I'm not so foolish as to jump off an 80+ foot high bridge into a body of water I don't know the depth of. Anyone who would I don't want around me. My philosophy is like the motorcycle saying, "Ride like there is no tomorrow, but ride so you can ride tomorrow".

It is. Just jump straight down, if you can swim good, it`s so fun. Whats the difference than people diving off the big cliffs?
Try it Ed, you will love it.
Be safe.

Why is it suicidal? Is the water shallow? That bridge isn't that high. I mean yes if the water is shallow I can see the danger in it, if its deep then what's the problem with it?

The water is about 184 feet deep, but you hit the surface pretty hard which can cause injury even death. There is an investigation about it now:

I attend etsu and am from johnson county.
I will say that one of my friends went to pioneer landing bridge and jumped off it, went in at a slight backward leaning angle and broke his back.
Had to wear this extremely gay back brace for months.

The back brace ended up being a great conversation starter at parties and such. Dude scored some good phone numbers off that back brace....

Many people get hurt or killed in life, whether you decide to drive a car or skydive. It's all a risk....it's about what you are willing to risk..I jumped both bridges and loved it! I know how to jump and where to jump. Not for the in-experienced.....kaaaaasplas h!

Yeah I did jump off when the lake was the lowest it gets which makes it around 180 ft I was told by the park ranger right after tellin me 2 people killed themselves jumpin this bridge. I landed in a sitting potition and I went down maybe 2 ft. I couldn't walk, stand or move for 3 days after band I'm here to tell about it. JOSH WILBER, Long Beach Cal
