I heard people talking about Redtail closing the golf course. Does anyone know what's happening if anything. Sorry if this was a rumor.

Well they made it so expensive that noone in the county could play. I used to go all the time when it was roan valley. Now the only time i can go is when there is a tournement. They even cut the high school golf team out. They have to go to elizabethton to play. Hate to hear this if it is true, but it would not surprise me.

Doesn't matter to me. Can't afford to golf there anyway.I think it's pretty sorry for them not to let the highschool play there, shows how much they care about the community!

Its funny that I saw the high school there this past week. I think you need to check your references before you state something to be true or false.

Not only does the high school team play at RedTail, they practice there and host matches against area high schools at RedTail. There is so much misinformation about RedTail in the community it is sickening. Yes, they charge more to play golf there, it's a lot nicer golf course that when it was Roan Valley...you can't invest millions of dollars into something and the prices stay the same. I would think that even the people on this website could grasp that.

Redtail had senior and mens and ladies day for $38 including a cart. Try driving elsewhere and spending another 2 hours round trip on the road. Besides golf isn't about saving money. Ask any real golfer way they play. I agree with Little Joe.

Ok, they always let the highschool play there? I don't think so, and it's their own fault for making it so nice they have to charge absurb prices! Glad they will be gone soon!

Golfer, I can state with a high degreee of certainty that the high school has ALWAYS had the privilege of playing at both Roan Valley and RedTail. Can they play on Saturday mornings without paying a fee? Of course not! Can they play in the afternoons, can they practice there, can they host matches there....yes! What the heck do people expect, Carte Blanche just because they are on the high school golf team? Let's be real. As to the golf course being so nice and needing to charge more, that is to inane to respond to. I'm glad that a fine Christian like you revels in the misfortune of others.

Who said i christian, and no they did not ALWAYS allow the highschool to play there, and yeah i don't expect you to let the team play all the time but in season, you sould let them. They represent Johnson County, they sould be able to play. Your the one that said its so much nicer they had to charge alot more. And if anything you say is true, they would not by in the position they are in. I'm glad to find a fine christian like you supporting your community.

I am an employee of RedTail Mountain. I was informed that it is not bankrupt, but was in the process of foreclosure. But the owners still have a slim chance to retain ownership, although things do seem pretty grim. I know most of the community thinks they overpriced themselves out of business, but they are comparable to Boone Golf Club and Elizabethton. RedTail brought a lot of revenue for the town of Mountain City. If it goes it will be sorely missed

I made a a couple prediction a coming to mountain city thread back 3 weeks ago. and another thread I was scoffed at. This is just the begining of that prediction. You towns people better get to gether about how you like this town to grow other than our property taxes going up. because. because Mountain City is heading to be like banner Elk.

My rant on coming back to Mountain City
Norse Witch wrote:
I’m just wondering here? But if people are getting sick of the city, which I don’t blame them. But if they all start coming to smaller towns like Johnson County where the cost of living is still fairly low and bring their city habits with them after a while won’t small towns like Johnson County and Mountain city become like where they come from? Like example say Boone Nc,Myrtle Beach SC or Gatinleberg TN . Maybe worst because places like here have fewer laws governing how to handle situations like that of larger towns. And all those places were small towns 25 -30 years ago, until developers found them. Would you want to live in those place now? Could you afford to live there if you did?
I diffidently under stand why people want out of the big cities The crime, Over crowding, high cost of rent and living expenses, to much local government telling you what to do Etc. But what happens to small towns that already don’t have many jobs. Have little to nothing for children to do in, and admit it folk. For the most part, most of native people and local churches don’t like outsiders in it because they are afraid of them changing their way of life. Look at what happen in Banner elk, Linoir and Blowing rock. Those areas were small towns 15- 20 years ago until the developers found them. Now it cost so much to live because of the gated communities and rich summer homes, that the poor people have to relocate. And the middle class foots the bill. And guess where they go. And what they bring with them. And towns that have no building caps, residential code enforcement or zoning laws like Mountain City or Johnson County have to make a lot of changes to accommodate these larger influx of people and the changes .. Because other wise wouldn’t that be a heaven for slumlords and low income housing. Not to mention a greater crime problem. I hear it all the time from local people how they hate outsiders coming in here telling them how to live and run their county. It’s going to happen anyway so our city and county government needs to prepares for this growth. How many of you that have lived here over 10 years seen a increase in the traffic go three fold? Houses popping up on Mountain tops. How many of you have tried to go hunting, fishing or just go for a walk in the woods where you did as a child and couldn’t anymore. Only to find the land has been posted by seasonal homeowners. Or land developers. I promise you it will only get worst, I had fore seen it during ritual. And I hope our county and city government is ready to handle this fast pace growth. If not you poor and middle class folks are not going to like it much. Rish people don’t care one way or the other.
I'm not hating here, I’m just wondering how other people opinions on this Subject are that all.
Sorry in advance if I offended anyone buts this is truth.

you can play RedTail for $38 dollars after 1:00 on weekends! Is that extra six dollars worth the drive to Elizabethton? I know most people prefer an early tee time, but still, not a bad deal
