Depends on weight. It's relatively inexpensive 30 to 40 pounds of household garbage is $2.00 to $3.00.

If your Landfill takes Garbage from outside your County, why do you have to pay to dump your own garbage in it?

And who knows Sassy, it's big ol Mtn.City, they do all kinds of weird stuff but I'd say it is probably because Johnson County probs needs money.

The reason I ask is because if your Landfill takes trash from other places, they charge for taking that trash & Your County Officials should have negotiated Free Trash-Dumping for it's own Citizens, just for providing the Space & Facility in your County.
Even if it doesn't take trash from other Counties, you shouldn't have to pay because Your County is getting paid by the Trash Company for locate there, unless it's a County-owned Landfill & then, the fee is usually included in your County Taxes.
The bottomline is there is money to be made in Trash & it's disposal & it's not from County Residents' Dumping Fees, so I'm very surprised that you have to pay a fee each time you use the facility, to dump your own trash.
If it has "Big Truck" weighing scales, they are taking trash from other places and/or paying your County a percentage for taking the County's Garbage & selling some of it to be used by others, because that's how they charge, by the tonnage & they have to weigh the load to determine that charge.
It's hard to explain in a Post because there are so many options that could be the case, but it's very unusual for the Residents' of the "Host" County to be charged a "dumping' Fee.

You are clueless as to the process here. The only way that "host" residents don't is if there is some type of local tax. We do not pay that tax (which I would be against.) I prefer a pay you go and leave the taxes to our north and south.

I believe I stated that there are so many options that it's hard to tell why you're paying a dumping fee, without knowing what "set-up" you have. That's why I asked about it.
As for us, our Landfill takes Trash from as far away as New York State & the County Residents have No-Fee Dumping. Our County Leaders didn't negotiate the best deal they could have gotten, but we do have No-Fee Dumping for County Residents' Garbage. But, we have to pay for Pick-up in the City whether we use it or not. Out in the County, you can privately contact with a Pick-up Service & pay for it, or take it to the Landfill, yourself, & dump it for free.

Our landfill is actually closed. There is a transfr station in the industrial park. The trash is then hauled to Iris Glen.
