I heard from a district target manager that a target will be coming to mountain city within the next two years. I think this is great as it might make the population grow and provide more jobs.

Never have shopped Target stores. What kind of store is it? Is it similar to Walmart?

Wasn't it last Christmas that Target refused to let the Salvation Army Ring their bell in front of their stores? And when Dick Forrey, of the Vietnam Veterans Association asked a local Target store to be a proud sponsor of the Viet Vets Memorial Wall during their spring recognition event he received the following reply from the local Target"Veterans do not meet our area of giving. We only donate to the Arts, Social Action Groups, Gay and Lesbian causes and education."
So, if the Viet Vets Memorial Wall and Veterans in general do not meet their donation criteria than something is really wrong with that Target store. He was not asking for thousands of dollars, not even hundreds, just a small sponsorship for a memorial remembrance. As a followup he e-mailed the Target U.S.Corp. headquarters and was told their policy was the same. That's their National Policy. He also found they will not all the Marines to collect for 'Toys for Tot's' at any of their stores. And during the recent Iraq deployment they would not allow families of employees who were called up for duty to continue to pay for their insurance while on military service.

TARGET IS A FRENCH-OWNED CORPORATION.

If Target cannot support American Veterans then why should my family and I support their stores with our hard earned American dollars? And have their profits sent to France!.!

WITHOUT THE AMERICAN VETERANS, WHERE WOULD FRANCE BE TODAY? They most likely would be speaking German and trading Deutch Marks.

Mountain City needs jobs. I think the majority of people who live there would be happy to see a large business like Target come into the community. Whether you choose to work or shop there is your right as an American.

If you are going to make such accusations against a company or person, it is always a good idea to do your own research and site your sources rather than just believing everything you read in chain emails. A quick internet search on this topic led me to find that most of what you stated is un-true.

If we eliminate baseless accusations, uninformed opinions, wild-ass speculation, rumor mongering, idle or vicious gossip, namecalling, unprovoked defensiveness, and unprovoked attacks, then the Mountain City, TN, forum on Topix.net will shrivel up and die for lack of participation.

Well if you really think this is what Mountain City needs, then shut your own complaining mouth and open your own store!

We already have stores like that... Look at the dumpy craft stores on main street! We need a big store that will bring in jobs. Sure it may put out a few small stores, but who shops there anyway? Johnson City or Boone gets all of my money.

With a change of mind frame comes a change in quality of life. If people only work to get a pay check then of course the product will be crappy, but if they have incentives they will produce better. I feel the local residents with money should take initiative and get together with people that don't have the funds but do have the brains to do some creative things to generate a warm heart and solid roof.

Not being smart but we really have to work at this, its not a blink over night and we have a great new place. We have to show people that life doesn't have to be drab.

I hear we are to get three WalMarts and Four Targets and five K Marts. I also understand Bush when he retires will relocate to Johnson County and open a CAFO with Wiley.
They are all being drawn here by the great abudnace of local wealth and well educated population.

A few centuries is more like it.
A one horse town it is, and will remain so, as long as postings on this forum continue along this path.
Too bad that more qualified postings couldn't exist, and maybe then we would rid this forum of the morons, idiots, rumormongers, bible thumpers, and the like, and get down to the business of turning this area aroud.
The only target around here is the dart board target
seet up in most of your homes.
