Has this poor man been found yet. I know he must be in very bad condition after all this rain and cold.

I cannot understand why a volunteer search and rescue is not formed.I have heard people commit to helping if asked.I know the EMS is busy with the flooding and it is time to pull together.I am not talking about non-sense people but those with common sense to volunteer their services.
I have also seen older people out trying to unstop the creek and this is definately not safe, esp. for someone who is unstable on their feet.I do not know about the other areas but know that Doe is flooded. At least we can call our neighbors to make sure they are okay.

I heard they stopped the search, I heard they gave up,, I think that is so stupid, If it was my famly and I am sure most of you as well, we would want all the help and not give up,I dont know why people give up, (not saying the family has given up)just the law....and recue. I understand we have other things going on, but this is a human life...and is loved by his family....

Then why haven't you formed one? Oh thats right - you are better at telling others what to do than actually doing something. Talk talk talk.

A search should have been organized on Sunday P.M. BEFORE HIS FIRST NIGHT OUT before the rain came in the night.(expected nighttime temp was 47 degrees---rain, wet clothes, 82 years old, whaddaya think?)
This is a do it yourself county. Tell me what good all the damned churches are if each preacher in a pulpit on Sunday nite could not have sent in 6 able-bodied men with slickers, flashlights, and 2-way radios.

Too late now but, neighbors living near by, were said to have seen the man walking. I assume most of the community knew that he wasn't well, having memory problems? When he was seen walking, why didn't someone call for help to get this man back to his home?

There was a search started as soon as the call came in. They brought in the Med-flight helicopter and searched until the wind and rain forced them to quit. I thought they were still looking for him. I would love to help search but being out in the rain doesn't agree with my athritis.

And, another idea, knowing there are many people living on the Gentry Creek Rd., and that the fellow was walking during daylight hours, on Sunday afternoon, why didn't someone call to get him help?

A person does not interfere with the search team who are "trained" in this area.I think It is sad when there are able-bodied intelligent people sitting around who would have helped if the ones in charge would have allowed this.If the search and rescue have given up then the closest friends and family should establish one themselves.
You must be following my posts'since you know me so well.Missy, you do not have a clue about me.

My heart goes out to this man lost and alone. I am sure his family is frantic! My prayers tonight will definitely include them all and be thankful for my mothers mental health she is 82 as well. I will listen for an update at 11 on the news. Of course checking in here also. I hope it will be great news!

I have called and called about starting a citizen search party, they informed me that they had all the help they needed and weren't allowing untrained people up. I understand they do not want to have to search for more people, but my family and I are avid hikers and the people I have found to help are more than competent! I was pretty much told to stay at home! I don't wanna hear our sheriff make another statement about exhausting ALL resources, because I am a resource!!!

My goodness why are you turning something this tragic into a personal attack session? I hope you or your family never has to endure something like this. Please remember "karma".

Does any place near you have a Tracking Dog. It won't do any good now with the rains, but it might be a good question to ask, in case something like this happens to somebody else.
Could he have been kidnapped, somebody picked him up in a car and took him out of the area?
It just doesn't make any sense to me, that he hasn't been found by now, unless something like that happened or unless he's underwater somewhere and can't be seen.
It sounds like he might be an Alzheimer's Patient and they are known for wandering off.

I was wondering too why they didn't bring in dogs to follow his scent Sunday night before the rain started. I was told that they searched a 5 mile radius. How far could an 82 year old get between the last time he was seen (around 4:30)and the time it was called in (around 5:30)? It will be a miracle if he's still alive but we have to keep hoping for the best.

It would be a miracle--is right. They will probably find his body where he tried to take shelter in an outbuilding or old vehicle or hollow tree. Hypothermia causes confusion, and wasn't he in early stage A's anyway? Not one of us wants to go this way.

He does have Alzheimer's and this man walks every day. In reality, he could have made it to NC or VA from those trails. My heart goes out to his wife and family, this is such a terrible thing to go through!!!

Just checking in to see if there is any "good news".
With the chance of snow and a good amount it is not helping his chances of survival. We watched and did not hear anything on the news. Please let this family call on the residents of this community to help with an organized search. There are a number of us more than willing and able! Please if anyone knows anything , please post it .

If you have a Rescue Squad, call the Director or even a member, and ask them if they can use your help. Tell them what you have told us.
Call your Sheriff and ask and tell him.
This is just so pitiful and i just don't understand why more wasn't done to find him before now. It's just heart-breaking!
