Frankly, I am tired of hearing about this.It seams that if the family wanted to find him bad enough that they would have obtained a warrent to dig this hole;they have evidence for suspicion.Have they contacted the producers of Nancy Grace to do a show on this?Has anyone combed the area, like the mountain going toward Shady Valley and the mtn on Chestnut Mtn.?Has any of the family done research on the computer instead of posting on Topix? I think they had a right to obtain a warrent to have these "holes" dug into and a diver to go into the pond. I personally would have volunteered my time to do a search.I know the man whose dog was killed:that's all I'm saying.....
YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT MY FAMILY HAS DONE TO FIND THIS MAN!!! WE HAVE SEARCHED EVERY ROAD FROM DAMASCUS TO BOONE. THE POND HAS BEEN DRAINED AND YES THE FAMILY WAS ON THE MONTEL WILLIAMS SHOW SOME YEARS BACK. WE HAVE DONE EVERYTHING POSSIBLE SO DONT U DARE THINK WE SPEND OUR TIME READING THIS BULLSH*T PPL POST ON HERE. IF ANYBODY REALY CARED WHAT TRULY HAPPENED THAT NIGHT THEY WOULD BE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT INSTEAD OF SITTING ON THEIR ASSES POSTING RUMORS AND NOT FACTS. I PLAN TO DELETE THIS WHOLE FORAM BECAUSE NOT ONE POST HAS HELPED AND PEOPLE CAN BE SO CRUEL NOT REALIZING HOW MUCH THIS HAS HURT HIS WHOLE FAMILY. SO IF U HAVE FACTS AND ARE WILLING TO GO TO THE TBI, U CAN MESSAGE ME AND I WILL DEAL WITH IT..OTHERWISE DO NOT SPEAK OF THIS MAN OR TRY TO BELITTLE HIM OR HIS FAMILY!!!!

Jr. would go out at night and come home and go to the end of the road where he lived and set and drink beer and watch the deer in the field below his house. I think he got to thinking about things and went and had a round with his neighbor or maybe his neighbor snuck up on him unexpected and took him to his place and burried him and his car. Its the only thing that makes sence. He is close by. I knew Jr. and he wouldn't have went anywhere!
I personally know some people that went to the neighbor and was looking for Jr. when he went missing and he ran them off and told them not to ever come back. They told me there were several pieces of heavy equipment at the sight. Go Figure!

If "people" had this experience, then they should have also told the country investigator. Therefore their reports about what specific heavy equipment they saw and where and when they saw it should have been entered into the investigator's case file. The South family should have had access to these files. If it is not, then this is just "big talk" or exaggeration or LIES spread for some reason or purpose.

I believe the TBI number is available online and even in the phone books, and it is on page 6 or 7 of this thread. I really hope that any facts go right to the ears of TBI.
On page 8 or 10 or thereabouts there is even a link to a picture and description of the little white Subaru Justy like J's.
I am so sorry you think people have been cruel. I honestly cannot think of posts here that were intended to be cruel, except a plain talking one that did not paint him as a saint.(How could that be cruel. I am not a saint and do not have one in my family.) I believe most people have good intentions, and so your anger is puzzling. Oh, was it the post wondering if J had made a pass at someone? Well, a 50 something year old man is expected to make a pass at somebody, isn't he?
Maybe you could explain your post? I for one am very sorry you think this Topix site is cruel.

By the way, there was a post once from a poster who claimed to be his relative telling us about his little Ford or Chevy when it was really a Subaru, and she or he was off the real date by a day or two. What was THAT? If I was you, that would make me mad.

I don't think you are a close or loving family member because you refer to J twice as "this man" instead of Jr. or John.
So why would you want to close this forum site down?

To drive his car up that road with a live mad Jr South in it on a cold as kraut night in Dec. does not make sense. I believe a coward(s) did it, and they might even have been afraid to drive his car with a body in it up that road, afraid of meeting somebody.
I can't see many people on that road during the night and most of the travelers would probly be Virginia residents who may not have heard about this for weeks out.

If somebody is sitting near my house at night drinking, watching my deer, I would approach him with a gun. This would be considered stalking, esp., when you have had words with your neighbor. Was the neighbor questioned? If he killed Mr. South then he had help in destroying the body and car.If I remember him, he is not that big of a fellow.I know he loved his dog as he had no other "family" here.

When you have a woman working in a place like this where there are people drinking then a "pass" might be possible.I personally don't believe that Mr. South is the only man who may have made a pass or remarks.

Doe resident and also NC Lady,
Is there a boy scout troupe in Johnson County now?
The right person might talk them into donating some hours. With hiking skills and some protection, they might scout out the ravines below the road where a small car could have ended up. The leader could help them keep a map of where they searched. Somebody pulled it into an old farm building or garage and moved it as soon as they could before he could be missed.

It don't take a big man to burry a car and a man with a backhoe.

It doesn't take musch muscle to push a car off an embankment. It just bothers me that search groups were not formed at the time of the disappearance; foot, water and air.

Oh NO! I didn't realize that the cops hadn't done a complete investigation..........I just assumed that they were still investigating, trying to get more info? People haven't forgotten, and some have their own ideas about who could have murdered this man! From what I've read, the mountain needs to "BE MOVED"!!!!!!!!!

Here it is coming up on December 18 again. From reading the posts by the niece,I believe it was Dec 18, 1998, and it was cold with snow laying, a Friday night when he was last seen.

Interesting. Something will give in this case, I just feel it. Someone has probably already left a letter and wants the truth to come out.

When Mrs. O left ahead of JS and headed up Cold Springs way, did she stay on Cold Springs to go toward Huggins Rd.? What was her destination? Or in her rearview did she see JR split off behind her to go up Jenkins Hollow OR did she go up Jenkins Hollow Rd too ahead of him as she headed toward east Cold Springs Rd/Huggins Rd intersection?

In other words, what was Mrs. O's destination exactly? and why does a family connection of the O's say today that Mrs. O last saw JR near or at Huggins Rd.?(I have never seen Huggins Rd. mentioned here by the niece, or mentioned here by ANYbody)

P.S. The niece I believe on here said that Mrs. O had changed her story to LE about that night.
I wonder what exact details did she change according to LE file and and how could LE chalk the change of story up her "illness"?? I mean if you feel like working til closing time and then drive to your boyfriend's house, how sick can you be?

Jr's family has tried to get things done in their search for him. Since he was not an important rich person the sheriff's dept. didn't want to be bothered... It's not the families fault that they couldn't get any of the LE to look for him before any evidence was long gone. Their answer for his disappearance was, "he's a grown man, he can go where he wants to."
Yes I see.
I can understand their thoughts that he was not truly missing.
But after 3 days and a missing person's report is filed, shouldn't the investigator be legally bound to take legal sworn statements and make the informants sweat if the stories do not agree?

At the end of the road you mention, was he sitting on public right of way or somebody else's private property or was he still on his own place?
