johnson county school closing/delay information

Unless I am misinformed, which is possible, the Johnson County School System does not have a telephone number that one can call to determine the status of Johnson County Schools operating schedule on snowy weather days...I know the local radio and TV stations are advised of schedule changes, but it would be really good if the Johnson County School system had a local number that parents could call to get the information...Most school systems across the country do have such a system,,, This would often be more convenient that trying to get the information on TV, radio or of the TV stations websites. I work out of the county as do many Johnson County residents, so having a number to call to check on early closings, etc., would be helpful...I know for a fact that on many mornings that a delay is announced, that is followed up by a closing, that kids get dropped off at the schools by parents, only to find out later in the day that the schools have been closed. This is not a good system, but not that difficult problem that can be solved by someone in the school system taking the Initiative to do somthing about it...I know many parents would appreciate it muchly...

There used to be a phone line you could call to get school closing information, as well as homework assignments for the middle and high school students. Teachers & principals stopped updating it, and I'm not sure if it's around anymore.

Yeah, I know there used to be a homework hotline that had updated school schedule info, but I think because teachers didn't update it, it is no longer working. It would be really nice if they could run it again, even if only for the purpose of snow schedule info without the homework updates.

Many times parents have dropped their child off at school and left even after the announcement has been made on TV and the radio! It pays to make an effort to find out so you wont't embarrass yourself and your child. Yes, there is a number to dial and find out. The number is announced and (at least on the elementary level) a notice is sent out. Question your child and you might find out that they don't always make it home with many of these notices. I have had parents tell me that they don't have time to read everything. This sets them up for being in the dark about many things. Then they blame the teacher or the school because they weren't informed. I have been frustrated and irritated many times over this.
