I don't understand how they can build another elementary school but yet there is still only one high school.

I'm glad I don't have kids because I don't want to be the one responsible for bringing children into this goofed up world we live in. A child doesn't have the choice. Things were different in the past. Why would anybody want to be born today?

They need to build another high school. This will make it up to 4 elementary schools that will eventually go to one high school.

I thought it was bad when they named the new middle school eastside, but now they came up with crossroads? How about honoring a president, civic leader, or a military hero? Our school board makes some interesting decisions.

The "Crossroads" has some significance to the city as it was the first name associated with what would become Mt. Washington. I think that's okay, because in my opinion the kids ought to learn a little bit about their local history too.

However, I do agree that some of these names are a little silly. There's no significance in 'Eastside.' Its not even on the east side of town, or even really the county!

I think that Eastside School is on the Mid to east side of Bullitt county, if you take into consideration that it extends to Dixie Hwy. I guess you could drive it and clock the mileage if you choose to.Crossroads Elementary should be a great school. The staff was all hand picked and not just hired because of over staffing or tenure. They also want to work together as a team for a better school experience for children and teachers alike. My children can't go there and I am sad about it, I would trade with anyone who wanted.

I think all the schools should have the same benefits, resources, and they should all have walls by now

Yes they were hand picked....they were all taken from the "elite" Pleasant Grove Elem. I think the count was 11 teachers from there. Then teachers who are good teachers got sent to wherever there were jobs. I think we will see staff changes after one year. These teachers from PGES dont know what kind of population of students are here.

LOL! I can't wait to sit back and watch the fireworks. I have already heard from parents that the Open House they held was a JOKE! LOL! I am watching and waiting.

And for the record..........the school board did not choose the name of the new elementary school.

First of all, i wish people would quit being so nasty about the new school. Iam very excited about it. My daughter will actually get to go to a school with windows. She will also get to have some of the resources that the upper crust get at Eastside and Pleasant Grove. And, to the person with the attitude (unbelievable), the open house wasnt that great. But, we had no school to have it in yet. What do you mean by population of students? Are you trying to say something about our kids here. It's about time the slums of mt washington get something nice. The middle of hwy 44 seem to get everything. So lets have alittle less attitude and give the school a chance.

Well I have to retract my statement about wishing mine could go to this school. Although I am not sure how many teachers are from PGES, I still think tenure is not the way to hire teachers. It may be a nice new school with a great staff, but they have no books. Friends of mine say it is terrible. If your kids go there you should be asking questions of someone higher up in the school system.

It's elementary school. If your child's life is horribly ruined because their kindergarten class didn't have enough crayons then I'm afraid you didn't teach your kid how to function properly. I see kids getting dropped off at school with parents smoking in the car - now THOSE kids are the ones that are screwed!!! Besides, it's not just the schools responsibility to educate your kid - it's yours too, but all too often I hear the "that's what school's for" response from lazy parents. It's your community - instead of complaining about the schools why don't you volunteer your time with the school and help make it a better place. Or, just be lazy and watch your kid turn out like crap. It's your choice.

Aren't there 3 regular high schools in Bullitt county and an alternative or two? I do agree that they probably ought to take that into account but I can't believe they haven't looked at the numbers.

I would hope that there are no fireworks at crossroads, because that would mean things were not good for the children all year. I am sure some teachers will leave as they always do. Teachers with tenure will not move unless they want to.
As for not enough crayons, I don't know if you are referring to my post, but crayons are much different from books. Yes, go to the new school and ask to see the books that your child uses... Take a pack of crayons just because.

I think it is terrible that there are big screen TV's in the lunchroom (Bullitt East) but there are not enough books if you should need to bring one home.

They put it all online. Go to the school website, go to the faculty/staff section, find a teachers blog and click on curriculum. Are you trying to look up info for your kid?

You have to be kidding if you think good education is a priority in Bullitt County. All they think about is playing the test score game and trying to preserve financial capital by squandering their human capital resources in the school system. Already one teacher has quit Crossroads in September, and you will probably have a 50% turnover in teaching staff at the end of the school year. The sad part is the children that could be helped to learn aren't given proper attention when teachers are overwhelmed by dealing with the students with behavior issues, that the school administration chooses not to recognise these students because they will have to provide teacher aides, create extra classes and spend the money.Crossroads is a joke. Teachers aren't allowed to teach because they stay busy dealing with the tough kids and the administration is always creating more forms that are B.S. for teachers to fill out. If Keith Davis really wanted to save money he should just hire baby sitters, because that is about all the teachers are being able to do... or better yet, with all their push for no books, being paperless, and buying useless computer programs, just give each kid a laptop to take home, and the ones that want to study, could without the distraction of the feral children.

Horrible idea - and who's going to maintain the laptops? What happens when the kids download virus'- and they will! What happens when they repeatedly "lose" their laptops - who's going to pay for that? The parents? Riiiighhht. You obviously have no concept how high maintenance a computer network is - you just think "duur - lapity toppity." And you also expect kids to self-educate? Good luck with that. Instead of running math software they'll be downloading pornography and playing games. Then they'll spill coke on the sucker and the taxpayers will get a nice bill for the expense. Such a stupid idea.
